                "    Trust    me,    I've    been    through    this    before.    "    Teeth    grit    as    words    are    spoke.    Not    the    worst    injury    he's    had,    but    by    far    still    not    pleasant    at    all.    A    hand    presses    to    the    oozing    wound,    the    other    reaching    for    the    belt    that    is    buckled    at    his    waist.    It    only    takes    a    moment    or    two    before    it's    pulled    off,    and    wrapped    around    his    leg,    tightening    the    makeshift    tourniquet.    Hand    reaches    for    the    pack    of    cigarettes    that    rest    deep    within    the    pocket    of    his    coat.    He    pulls    it    out,    popping    one    between    lips.

"Wanda, you are not as alone as you believe yourself to be. There are people who are more than willing to help you, if only you'd let them - myself included."

"I don't need protecting, Stephen!" She shouts back to him; just because she understands his intentions doesn't mean she's going to leave him to deal with this alone. "This will be over faster if you let me help you - you just need to trust me."

"Because I have no reason to be." The Goddess' words are unquestionably sincere, and she places a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Believe it or not, I struggled with my power, when I was young."

She sits on this bed that they have shared. This bed where they have held each other when tears threatened to drown their faces; this bed where they have bled out from the wars that plague them both; this bed where they have come together as one, time and time again. ❛ I have dreamt of us, ❜ she shares. There is no melancholy in her voice, just this deep, deep sadness. ❛ I have dreamt that there are worlds where we can be together. Where I am yours, and you are mine, and we are happy. ❜

When she exhales, she sighs. Her face conveys the brokenness she feels inside, and though there is no shame in it, she wills herself not to cry. ❛ I thought we could fight fate. If I wanted you enough. If I needed you enough. If I just loved you enough. ❜

❛ Loving you is ruining me, Billy. ❜ How is that for a confession? A spark of recollection stirs in her belly; how sweet it had once been to look someone in the eye and say, I love you. To hold their hand in hers. To tease a kiss at the corner of their mouth, until fire burned down tenderness and hot passion took over. Although she has not verbally told Billy the feelings in her heart, she has conveyed her love in other ways. And now she conveys it blatantly, along with her despair, too.
