I did a mini analysis of all of Jane’s personalities we’ve seen pre-Jane Patrol, please read my Magnum Opus
Sylvia: Described as “Kindy Moody” by Mr. Nobody and one of the personalities to witness Mr. Nobody’s Nightmare Land. In the comics, she represented Jane’s claustrophobia and repeated lines of poetry. The second time we see her, she’s curled up in a ball repeating “dead in his arms”. She’s probably faithful to the comics in which, she’s an antisocial personality that doesn’t like to come out much
The Hangman’s Daughter: (I love her) Seems friendly, but obviously represents the depressed side of Jane’s trauma. She comes out and draw when Niles asks for her, which shows she’s cooperative and has more knowledge about the layout of the underground than Jane does. I’m hung up on her name? Like is the Hangman supposed to be Jane’s father or does she believe she has a father separate from the other personalities. The latter is more likely given how all the personalities are treated as different people. I think she was close to the Hangman, representing a father figure, which might be why she’s nicer to Niles and Cliff. She even lets Cliff touch her shoulder, which Hammerhead hates
HammerHead: She’s so interesting, honestly. To me, Hammerhead is all the pent up anger in trauma. She is constantly angry and in pain, screaming at a world that hurt Kay. She pushes everyone away, threatens anyone that touches her because she doesn’t want to get hurt. The most vocal of the antisocial personalities and fits well with the theme of not wanting to be controlled. Hammerhead is like a glass cannon, very powerful as she is fragile.
Scarlet Harlot: She briefly appears, so not a whole lot to say about her. Unlike Hammerhead, Scarlet wants to be touched, she wants connection.
Babydoll: The Friendliest of the personalities. She quickly bonds with Cliff after he gave her food and even takes direction from Niles. A side of innocence with naivety that the world is just peachy. I found it interesting that after Jane hides for a bit in Cult Patrol that she becomes the dominant personality for a while, instead of Hammerhead, at least for a scene. Maybe in place of seeing Cliff as a monster, Babydoll could see the good in him.
Flaming Katy: An antisocial personality that seems to be a bit more selfish. While some personalities emerge to help Jane like Flit or even Hammerhead, Katy seems to look after herself. She only appears when she personally feels attacked and according to Jane doesn’t even talk to the other personalities.
SunDaddy: Katy’s antithesis. She and Katy can’t seem to talk, but I feel SunDaddy as more of a team player. When Cliff says they should do something to help the town in the first episode, she appears, when Cliff tells her no, she leaves. She also destroys Fuch’s machine and protects Jane from Arani’s blast of heat. She seems to have a good heart, at least compared to the other personalities.
Lucy Fugue: She appeared for like 10 seconds, but in that she establishes that the personalities are their own people and she’s one of the antisocial ones. Not as dominant as the other ones, if she quickly goes away, but it can be said that she doesn’t like to be told what to do or be a team player.
Silver Tongue: Appeared when Katy, Lucy and Hammerhead were fighting Vic and Cliff, as well as the first one to start a fight with Fuch’s henchmen. One of the antisocial personalities, but one that definitely gets a thrill out of fighting as evidenced when she smiles putting a sword to Cliff’s throat or just before killing Fuch. When Fuch talked about controlling the other personalities, I got a sense it was that statement that lead to Silver Tongue killing him. She doesn’t want to be controlled, she wants to fucking fight. Also her powers are interesting in the sense she doesn’t physically touch someone to hurt them. Turning words into weapons instead would help with someone who has an aversion to touch from trauma.
Flit: Seems to only appear to speed up the plot and then immediately leave. I see Flit as someone who likes watching the action from a distance until, she gets bored and speeds up the process. Bored easily and doesn’t like interacting with people.
Penny Farthing: I get the sense she’s either an escapism personality based off a character Kay liked in childhood or a base for some anxieties. She’s a stuttering timid mess, but she does stand up to Cliff when asserting she has hopes and dreams. She takes hold after Hammerhead is triggered by the church and priest. Makes me think what the process is when Jane leaves for a while. Does one personality just go for it? Do some have a discussion? Hammerhead seems like a go to dominant after Jane, but Penny is an interesting foil to Hammerhead. She may be nervous, but she clearly has some sense to her.
Dr. Harrison: A semi normal personality, but that’s not saying a lot in this bunch. From dialogue in Pawn Patrol it seemed like the two times she emerged from Jane were the only times. Jane doesn’t even recognize the name. This means that Dr. Harrison likes to keep to herself in the underground. She’s an adult personality that can read people like a book, but also took the asylum inmates suggestions, meaning she’s open.
Karen: Wooh boy. Karen pretty much represents a “typical” rom com girl. But that’s surface level, deeper she’s obsessive, manipulative and passive aggressive to those who don’t agree. She’s another personality that’s more looking after herself and actively suppresses the other personalities for control. She uses her powers to get what she wants, but doesn’t seem to be bothered by the fact that the man she’s forcing to love her doesn’t actually love her back. I found it interesting when she reasserts control after Hammerhead almost kills Dougie. She sounds genuinely apologetic and repeats that she could never hurt him. This is what makes her lose control and go back to the underground. That at any moment, she could no longer be, ripped from a life she wants so bad. When she gets dragged back she can only scream “I’m still here!” And when defeated, insults the other personalities.
also today is v-day so this is important and thematic
