When you look up info about dissociation it tends to become more overt with age, but my personal unproven opinion is that it's all about how safe your environment is. Our dissociation was always somewhat known to us and sometimes even pointed out by others as us faking our feelings or changing opinions(that we didn't remember) but we didn't know it was DID, just that we were a weirdo and maybe schizophrenic. It became way more overt after spending 4 years in dorms which were way safer environment than our house and we actually had a network of support there which continued through us spending time at our grandparents' for the exams, since everybody was nice to us and we could just rest. But after we came back home, we were back in the distressing environment again. We lock ourselves in our room mostly because of that. This is also the time Roséline(Rosé Key) showed up for the first time trying to force us back into being covert with their own anxiety, which I guess worked partially but after fixing relationship with our siblings and having some rest everyday while parents are at work we started having things like obvious voice changes when switching etc.

This may work different for other systems tho. And that's the biggest thing in DID, it's a very personal disorder since everyone reacts to trauma differently, with different things being traumatic enough to cause that trauma.

Having a different presentation of the disorder doesn't automatically make you a faker.

And since alters can share memories that keep your everyday life going, shouldn't they also have some memory of another headmate at least searching up stuff about the disorder? I don't have defined memories of any of that, but I have the feeling that "I know this", like, I knew from the start we had a tracking app and we had considered ourselves a system for around few months.

I know also that there are systems who don't even share this much memory and need to leave information for other alters about what happened and what they left where. Both are valid.

The original post was about using correct pronouns for people, more specifically that it's "your problem" to unlearn misgendering, which yeah I get, sometimes even other headmates of ours struggle with gendering those of us who use neopronouns(like me) and I know they work on it which I am thankful about even if they still mess up from time to time
