One of the best bands around. Ever.

Welcome to Selective Hearing, where I'll be pinpointing the individual traits that I think make albums great (or, at the very least, worthwhile). One of my favorite albums this year has been Born of Osiris' "The Discovery."  And while it has a number of things going for it, what keeps bringing me back is the positive and hopeful lyrical vibe in many of the tunes.  While I don't necessarily agree with all of the band's philosophies, it's great to have some heavy music to listen to that's uplifting instead of depressing.  Hearing them scream about improving and making a difference is a welcome change from the general hopelessness that permeates most heavy music, because let's face it, if we were to listen to just Shai Hulud for a week we'd probably be ready to jump off the nearest bridge.  It's also worth mentioning that this album has some truly great guitar leads, a constant flow of moshable riffs, and some cool electronic textures.  I'd recommend it to anyone who can handle heavy music.
