This has been my favorite patch of sulfur tufts so far. Slide through the photos to see a zoomed-out image of their cycle this season. The mushrooms are flushing around the base of the tree! You can see the first, second and third (current) flush of them as they’ve progressed. I found this odd "cloverleaf" of mushrooms on a sandstone rock outcrop by a half-buried root. Sorry, I didn't notice what kind of root it is - probably oak or manzanita. I didn't want to break up the pattern, but I found another mushroom further along the root and moved it into the photo. I believe the mushrooms are Sulfur Tuft aka Clustered Woodlover (Hypholoma fasciculare aka Naematoloma fasciculare), see this photo.
