3: Nose Kiss
The night was cold and dark... But Tatia's skin had become immune to the cold a long time ago, around the same time when her body learned how to blend in the shadows of the night. During the night, Tatia would make use of both those abilities to facilitate her hunts. Hanging somewhere between the states of existence until she'd pick her prey. And when she'd finally make her descent, armoured only with her monstrous fangs — there would be no escape.
Most nights, that would be the case. Not that one, however.
Every once in a while there came a night that was special. Though still lurking in the shadows of the unknown, they were not hiding her in preparation of an ambush. They were embracing her almost lovingly, to allow her a glimpse into a life that had been taken from her before she could even dream it. They stilled the air so the seconds could go slower as she observed.
It’s been decades, possibly close to a century, since she’d last paid him this sort of a visit. During the last thousand years, she would sometimes come to watch her former lover from afar. This was their little tango, which he wasn’t even aware of. Perhaps once or twice he'd caught some strange movement barely in his field of vision, his eyes never quick enough to pinpoint the exact source, but his eyes were never quick enough to track down its origin.
Tatia stood silently on the other side of his room, a melancholic smile on her face. However, it quickly vanished after she noticed something strange. His sleep was clearly disturbed by something; his muscles were tensed and he began to stir. In a blink of an eye, Tatia was at the window, ready to leave unnoticed... but then she realised — he wasn't waking up. The source of the disturbance was in his dream, causing droplets of sweat to appear on his forehead.
Curiosity had always been Tatia's biggest flaw — unable to turn away, she headed towards him, placing a hand on his forehead. She focused to gently wrap her power around his mind, trying to find out what made his sleep turn into a nightmare.
SHE SAID NOTHING OF THE DARK MAGIC THAT WOULD TURN YOU INTO A MONSTER
❝My dear...❞ she sighed quietly under her breath, taking her hand away... A thousand years of time and space allowed her to distance herself from those events, though when recalled, they were painful in an almost physical way. It had only taken a couple of months for her to realise, upon learning her own monstrous nature, that there was nothing he could have done. Understanding came easily to her, but forgiveness took more time. Though eventually, she'd learned to forgive him as well.
And now, centuries after the wound was healed, the memory came to haunt him.
With a soft smile settling on her face, Tatia leaned forward to leave a simple, gentle kiss upon the tip of his nose. And at that moment, her power wrapped around his mind once again, to lead his thoughts in a different direction; away from the torment, away from the guilt. She kept her lips close until she was certain his subconsciousness spun a beautiful dream of a blissful afternoon they once shared under the old willow.
❝My sweet Elijah...❞ she whispered to his ear. ❝What happened in the past shall stay there and no longer hold any deeper meaning... No longer hold your memories in front of your eyes. Move on... You're long since forgiven for your deeds...❞ a single tear shed from her eyes when once again she'd planted a kiss on the top of his nose, a symbolic kiss of forgiveness... and goodbye.
❝ — Just keep in mind... that I loved you...❞
