Zahid to seek additional allocation for Permatang Pauh if Suhaimi wins

PERMATANG PAUH, April 26, 2015: 

Apart from an allocation of RM5 million that will be given to Permatang Pauh should by-election candidate Suhaimi Sabudin win, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would also seek an additional allocation.

“An MP is given RM5 million from the federal government.

“I reckon this allocation will be distributed for development and other expenditure, including for welfare,” he told reporters after launching the mobile community transformation centre (CTC) here at Permatang Pauh Commercial Centre.

The Umno vice-president added that he will use his capacity as a federal minister to seek the additional allocation for Suhaimi from the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

This because the voters were burdened by infrastructure in Permatang Pauh that needed to be improved, he said.

“Permatang Pauh has waited a long time to fix the infrastructure,” he told reporters when asked to elaborate on the allocation.

During his speech, Ahmad Zahid said there was a need for Permatang Pauh to have an MP with the Barisan Nasional ticket, as the candidate would be able to take the problems of the rakyat straight to the federal government.

“Not all problems can be solved by the state government.

“Because the big pipe is at Putrajaya. The allocation pipe is at Putrajaya,” he told attendees at the launch event.

Meanwhile, the minister also said that the common sentiment among the people was that they wanted “winds of change”.

“I have been here more than a week now and I’ve gone down to the ground. People there said winds of change will happen.

“Those at the edge of the city and in villages are yearning for development.

“Suhaimi is someone who stays in Permatang Pauh and he just needs the next three years to fulfil the promise of development.

I am nervous, says BN Permatang Pauh candidate

PERMATANG PAUH, April 24, 2015:

The Barisan Nasional (BN) Permatang Pauh by-election candidate Suhaimi Sabudin, 44, said that he did not expect he would be contesting for the parliamentary seat.

“I feel so nervous. I did not expect to be selected as the candidate for the by-election here,” Suhaimi said today.

Suhaimi admitted that his job would be a difficult one as he had to compete with the Opposition who had been maintaining the seat for almost 20 years.

“We have to fight. This is the PKR’s stronghold for over 17 years and we can’t let them continue staying here, or else we can never make the Prime Minister’s vision come true which is to gain back our dignity here.”

He said this in his speech at the Permatang Pauh Polytechnic here today during the launch of the Wanita BN election machinery by Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The by-election is being held following the five-year imprisonment of its incumbent, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was found guilty of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Anwar had initially won the parliamentary seat back in 1982 under the Barisan Nasional’s ticket before he was sacked in 1998. His wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail captured the seat in the 1999 General Election and it had been PKR’s stronghold ever since.

In the last general election, Anwar defeated Barisan Nasional’s Dr Mazlan Ismail with a 11,721-vote majority.

BN names Suhaimi as Permatang Pauh by-election candidate

PERMATANG PAUH, April 23, 2015:

Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Suhaimi Sabudin has been named as the candidate for the upcoming Permatang Pauh by-election.

Suhaimi, 44, who is also the Permatang Pauh Umno secretary, was announced by the party’s vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the candidate to contest in the PKR stronghold.

Suhaimi was described as a “leader in the making” who projects a “youthful” and “young blood” image for the party, as wanted by Umno leadership.

The Guar Jering Umno chief is also known for his dedication to the party.

Suhaimi is said to be well known in Permatang Pauh as he is often seen during programmes organised by the Permatang Pauh Umno and is no stranger to the locals here.

The businessman also has an impressive academic background. He is an engineering graduate.

Originally from Guar Perahu in Permatang, Suhaimi has been actively involved in Umno since 1992.

The father of four graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in town and country planning and is presently a businessman.

Muhyiddin, who is also in charge of both the Permatang Pauh and Rompin by-elections, said in Bandar Perda here today, that being the Permatang Pauh by-election candidate was no easy task for anyone as it came with big responsibilities and challenges.

He, however, expressed confidence that BN has chosen the right candidate to become the voice of the people of Permatang Pauh.

“What is needed is for the people of Permatang Pauh to be well represented with their wellbeing taken care of.

“It is pointless to have top leaders representing them, but their voices are not heard and they are neglected.”

He also advised the 800-odd crowd present at the announcement event not to play with past sentiments, saying it was more important to look at development and ways to improve in Permatang Pauh.

Muhyiddin also asked for support from the people of Permatang Pauh to give BN a chance to create history in the area and bring it to greater heights through its representative there.
