I haven't posted a WinkyBelle update in while! She finally managed to kick the infection after a few months of antibiotics. Life with permanent swagger has treated her very well so far, and she's even been reunited with the rest of the colony. Maribelle Update: This morning Maribelle had a significant amount of green discharge from her incision. Being the paranoid owner that I am, I immediately called her vet to have it checked. The vet said it was a really good thing I brought Maribelle back in because the abscess was extending down underneath the incision site and they had to remove some tissue. If we had waited, she might have lost a lot more. We're switching to a more aggressive antibiotic and I'll be taking her back every 2 days to have the area flushed out and rebandaged with medicated gauze. Super glad for my brain overthinking things right now cause we could've lost her again. The vet did say the tissue around the optical nerve endings was looking really good, and she put on 10g of weight. Really hoping that this new antibiotic doesn't kill her appetite again. That being said, each of these visits is going to cost around $200 since she's got to be sedated. We'll be fundraising the entire month of January to make sure we can afford this essential treatment for sweet Maribelle. Maribelle update! The surgery went well today! The vets removed a large amount of infected material from behind the eye. The eye itself was also starting to get infected and they said it was a good thing we removed it ASAP because the infection could have easily spread to her brain. The area was flushed out and treated with topical antibiotics before they sutured it up. She is underweight at only 56g (average is 80g-120g) so we are going try our best to get her appetite back. She did eat some food the vets offered her after surgery, so that's a good sign! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared Maribelle's story!
