And this, dear readers, is exactly why I always have a surfboard in the back of my van. I was in North County along the coast for work this morning and around 9, when the Mueller questioning had gone about 10 minutes overtime on NPR, I drove past Cardiff Reef and saw the waves were hot and glassy, only three foot but really clean. So I decided to put off whatever mundane work-related activities I had scheduled for the next hour and a half and paddle out -- and am I glad I did! The inside Sandbar has had been built up because of small summer surf and there was no rocks showing so walking out to where you paddle out was easy. Surf with no one said and it was so warm I could have been out there all day. The wind started to come up with a little bit of texture on the water after about 40 minutes but that was okay. It was still fun. This is summer in full affect now. It was about 3-foot maybe pushing 4-foot on the sets. Not sure exactly what the tide was doing. It wasn't classic Suckouts minus-tide Cardiff Reef but it wasn't too high either. Just mellow peeling sections with good bowls. There were a few longboarder locals and sups that got the majority of the best set waves but I snagged a couple too. Water was crystal clear, you could see the eel grass waving around. I need to dawn patrol more often.
