“Hold up –,” the tired mother said, carefully eyeing her daughter up and down. “Whose hoodie is this?” 

       “oh, no, it’s--- it’s not.” jonathan presses his lips together, then twists them into the best smile he can manage. “no, my dad really is dating someone closer to my age than his own. but it’s--- i mean, we don’t have to get into it, it’s fine.” 

          robin  hadn’t  been  able  to  stop  thinking  about  that  photograph.   the  image  burned  into  her  memory,  unable  to  stop  picturing  that  ---  monster.   unable  to  stop  thinking  about  the  possibility  that  barb  had  been  taken  by  that  THING.   and  sitting  down  to  talk  about  it  with  nancy  wheeler  was  possibly  the  last  thing  she  thought  she’d  be  doing.   and  yet  ---

           ❛  jonathan  said  he  didn’t  see  anything  that  night  ---  that  barb  was  there  one  second  and  gone  the  next.  ❜   had  he  already  talked  with  nancy  about  this?   had  nancy  even  seen  the  photograph  that  had  been  haunting  robin’s  thoughts  all  week?   her  eyebrows  furrow,  head  shaking.   ❛  it  doesn’t  make  any  sense.   i  just  ---  i  can’t  wrap  my  head  around  it.  ❜

After all, Rose calls for her and it’s in her best interest not to keep her waiting. Fingers twirl a cherry stem between them as tongue captures any remaining juices from her lips. Head tilts to the side as she waves the girl in and turns in the chair to face her.
