Mary (Tormaline) had been trapped inside an old tombstone for ages, gone unnoticed until Sherlock found the gem and removed it from the tombstone. The tombstone said āMaryā on it, so Sherlock decides to call the Tourmaline Mary (since he gives his gem caretakers human names to make himself feel better, although they call each other by their gem names).
Mary wants to go home, wants to get revenge on her captors (whoever they were), but finds herself in the world of Sherlock and the other rebel gems. She finds John (Sunstone) appealing and kind, but misses home too much to stay on Earth, so she leaves.
Mary returns, but with Moran and Jim (Ioline) to fight and capture the rebel gems. In an effort to keep Jim and Moran away from Sherlock, Mary does the unthinkable: she spears Sherlock in the shoulder, cutting through his skin, but not harming his gem. Mycroft (Chalcedony) and Greg have to take him out of the battle and find Blue Quartzās healing grounds. It takes a while for Sherlock to heal, and it leaves a scar.
Once the enemies retreat and the rebel gems are back home with Sherlock, Mary tries to explain to John that she was trying to save him. John is unconvinced, only concerned with the fact that she hurt Sherlock badly and caused him a great amount of pain, and he scarred even with the help of healing grounds. When John believes Sherlock is asleep upstairs, he confronts Mary, then he takes his sword and stabs it through Maryās chest. Mary looks up the stairs to see a frightened Sherlock, whispers, āIām sorry,ā then loses her physical form, leaving behind her gem, which John bubbles away. Sherlock is now concerned for Mary and John, upset that it had to be like this. John believes Sherlock is crying himself to sleep that night because of what Mary did to him, but itās not that at allā¦

gemlock head canon where John's (Sunstone's) emotions get the better of him and he starts blaming Sherlock and his dad for the death of Blue Quartz, whom he had been loyal to before she went off with Mr. Holmes and decided to give up her life to have a baby. Of course, this makes Sherlock upset and makes him believe that he killed his mother, so when John leaves to cool off, Sherlock is off sobbing in his room and feeling sorry for himself. Greg (Calcite) tries to reassure Sherlock that John is just upset and doesn't understand, but it doesn't help. John begins to reminisce, thinking of the day Blue Quartz disappeared, how angry he was, but how his heart melted at the fact that Blue Quartz had to die for there to be Sherlock, remembering how he was a small, innocent baby at one point, the best reason for her to have left. John feels bad for making Sherlock upset, going up to his room to find him still crying, deciding to take him to one of Blue Quartz's favorite places and tell him stories to make him feel better (or at least until he fell asleep).
gemlock au where Jim (Ioline) constantly shows up to manipulate and annoy and basically be the equivalent of a stubborn cat towards the rebel gems, like a spider or a serpent taunting Sherlock and teasing him about his existence and his fate. Jim will end up killing himself at the end of each visit, getting rid of his physical form and leaving his gem, which is bubbled away but somehow ends up escaping and returning to the gems to annoy them more.
gemlock head canon where the gems want to find someone Sherlock's age to play with since he's homeschooled and the Hoopers are looking for a friend for their shy, bookish daughter who stays inside all day and doesn't have any friends, even at school. The Hoopers go looking around the city until they spot Mycroft (Chalcedony) and Sherlock at a farmer's market or something and Sherlock and Molly somehow get lost and find each other, so instead of looking for their parents/guardians, they run around and have a grand-old time until the Hoopers and Mycroft find them and realize that they became close friends. And it's like Molly was afraid she wouldn't find her parents so Sherlock made her feel better by making it a game, and he made her happy.
gemlock head canon where Sherlock feels left out with not having a gem name, so he gives the rebel gems human nicknames: John, Mycroft, and Greg. The gems call each other by their gem names still, but they acknowledge their nicknames when talking to Sherlock.

Hereās something I had come up with for a Steven Universe/Sherlock (or gem!lock) AU
I know there are other AUs out there in regards to what kind of gems they are and such, but this is something differentā¦sorta, I guess. (PS when I say that someone is a [insert character] equivalent, I donāt mean they necessarily act like the character from SU. They each have their own personalities and are their own characters. Itās mostly the role that they play in the au that makes them an equivalent).Ā
Crystal Gems
Sherlock is half-human. He is the Steven equivalent, around 14 years of age (but looks 12 cuz yeah). His mother was a gem and his father is a human, blah, blah, blah, gem war, blah blah, Crystal Gem equivalent. Sherlock is destined for greatness, but heās also still a child and acts like one, although he is told many times that he has to consider his future responsibilities. He is passionate and loyal, though, even if he does act a bit like a brat. If Sherlock was a gem, a lot of times he is seen as a Labradorite, but he could also be, going with the theme of SU, a Blue Quartz (intuitive insight, communication, and creative expression). His gem is located on his forehead, but sometimes itās covered by his curly locks so normal people donāt usually notice. His weapon is a shield.Ā
I had a lot of trouble with the Crystal Gem equivalent. I knew that John and Mycroft and Greg would be a part of it, but I wanted one of them to be a fusion of some sort. At the moment, I know I want Greg to be the fusion, but Iām not sure of what kind of fusion to make him.Ā
John is the Pearl equivalent. He is the rebel, the soldier, the protector. Sometimes he lets his emotions get in the way of his actions, but he truly wants to be there for his friends, especially Sherlock. He was the soldier of Blue Quartz and is still adjusting to the fact that she is gone and Sherlock has taken her place. Heās also a bit like Amethyst because he tries to be like a friend as well as a caregiver. As a gem, heās either a Sunstone (āconductor of lightā reference and the gem commonly used in the au) or heās an Agate (protective stone). His gem is located on his heart. His weapon is probably a gun of some sort or gauntlets like Garnet!Ā
Mycroft is the Amethyst equivalent, but heās more like Pearl in some aspects. Heās serious and collected, but he was born on Earth and eats Earth food (secretly). He was meant for more potential, and he reminds Sherlock often of his future responsibilities. He is like Pearl in the way that heās organized and more serious, not the type of gem to fight, but has gone on the offensive side when protecting Sherlock, who he considers a brother. As a gem, Mycroft is a Chalcedony, which is a gem that promotes brotherhood and alleviates irritability and melancholy (although Mycroft is easily irritated). His gem is also located on his forehead. His weapon is a sword.Ā
Greg is the Garnet equivalent. Yes, heās a fusion. Of what? Iām not sure. Maybe he isnāt a fusion. He doesnāt have to beā¦heās just the caregiver who understands that Sherlock is still a child and protects him and gives him good lessons (even obscure ones). Still, heās Greg. Heās a bit daft and he tries to be positive for Sherlockās sake. As a gem, Greg would probably be a Calcite (optimism, connets emotions with intellect).Ā
Other Gems
Jim, Magnussen, Moran, and Mary.Ā
Jim was really hard for me to decide on. I wasnāt sure if I should make him a powerful gem like the Jasper equivalent or make him the Peridot equivalent, the villain-turned-good. I think Jim is fine being his own character, being an annoying little shit to the other characters but staying evil, although there is good that Sherlock sees in him. I also feel as if Jim would often destroy his physical form often just to regenerate again in a better form. As a gem, he is an Iolite (inner vision, high awareness), and the gem is located on his head (lots of head gems. Iām sorry!). I think heād have Peridot-like weapons, or perhaps just a pistol.Ā
Magnussen is a diamond. Heās the Yellow Diamond equivalent, only cares about power and business. He is powerful but doesnāt really make himself all that known. He shows interest in Sherlock, though.Ā
Moran would be a pearl, loyal to Jim, having a gun-like weapon but rarely using it, because pearls are more defensive than offensive. His gem is on his arm somewhere.Ā
Mary is interesting. Sheās the Lapis equivalent. Sheās not a villain nor is she a Crystal Gem. She has wanted to exact revenge on her captors, but she also wants to protect Sherlock. Whatās different is that she also tries to protect John (because love), although they have a love-hate relationship with each other. Sherlock also wants to protect Mary, although I believe somewhere there would be a moment where she hurts him badly like in HLV. As a gem, she is a Tourmaline (supportive, individuality, stability, courage). Her gem is located on her heart and her weapon is a spear.Ā
Humans and Other Characters
Molly is the Connie equivalent. Sheās Sherlockās human friend, a bookish, shy person who really starts to open up after meeting Sherlock and going on strange, crazy adventures. Sherlock also opens up to her more than he does to anyone else. Sherlock isnāt great at communicating his feelings, but she helps him with that. They are only really able to talk best with each other, and it shows. Molly becomes braver the more adventures she goes on with Sherlock.Ā
Anderson was going to be the Lars equivalent, but he is not only that but also the Ronaldo equivalent. He doesnāt really like Sherlock, but he shows interest in him and the family of gems he lives with. He believes Sherlock gets in the way of things he wants to do at first, but after Sherlock shows him that he, too, is a gem, he becomes the Ronaldo-like skeptic and it kinda drives him a bit nuts (lol).Ā
Donovan is the Sadie equivalent. Although she is not very kind to Sherlock in the series, she has her moments. In this au, she lets a lot of things slide after a while, realizing that Sherlock is really just a kid with a lot on his shoulders. Sheād be a fun character to have.Ā
Mr. Holmes is Sherlockās dad and the Greg equivalent. He was there for Sherlock for some years, but not all of them, letting him stay with the gems for a while until he wanted to be involved again. He knew the gems for a while, being in love with Blue Quartz. He wasnāt a musician, though, but he was a mathematician and a teacher, still is. Both Sherlock and Mycroft look up to him in some degree.Ā
I am not sure where Iād fit characters like Mrs. Hudson, Irene, and Henry Knight in. I imagine Mrs. Hudson would be someone who is well-acquainted with the gems like Onionās mom was. The others will probably be one-time characters or just small, reoccurring characters. Idk. Ā
Thereās also Redbeard, Blue Quartzās giant dog. Sherlock calls him that because, although heās not red, he responds to it. Sherlock rides on him like Steven would to Lion and keeps his stuff in his fur.Ā
So there it is. Thereās more to it, more stories. This is just the template. Hopefully I can do some cute au stuff like I did with my fawnlock au. If you have any cute au stories, my inbox is open!Ā
