Digital Designs
For this lesson, I had to create a minimum of 4 digital unisex designs using the app procreate. These designs were to experiment with different brushes and features of the app to create new designs inspired by my past designs for this M.A.C cosmetics project and by using my Fauvism art movement mood board. I also had to create these designs within a limited time (which I actually managed to do)!
For my first design (top left), I decided to create a two-piece shirt design connected by the placket (the fold on a shirt which holds the buttons or any other fastening). For this design, I added a flowy piece at the bottom of the shirt which I formulated would be created with different types of organza pieces. The sleeves of this design are quite large and flowy and match the same flowy bottom piece of the shirt. The sleeves will also be created using different organza fabrics. The collar of this shirt is red and sticks up, creating a unique and punky sort of look. This design is most definitely my second favourite design.
For my second design (top right), I decided to create a cinched-in, long black shirt with a white simple collar and a pair of ruffles to add colour and distinction. The sleeves of this shirt are dramatic and puffed out. As you can see from the design up above, there are colours of red seen underneath the black colour I used. I also wanted to experiment which is why I used a specific bubbly brush type. This design is my favourite as I think I did a really good job at designing this shirt and I felt like the experimentation went well! I also loved the bubble brush that I used to create this design unique!
For my third design (bottom left), I went along with the idea to create a sleeveless, baggy shirt. This shirt consists of a similar flowery pattern which I have used for my past M.A.C cosmetics and Viva Glam designs. In the procreate app, I then decided to splatter black paint onto the design. I did this using a specific brush type. This overall added that extra detail onto this shirt which was needed. This shirt being baggy is appropriate for all body types and is certainly suitable for customers who prefer more baggier clothing. This shirt will be also wearable especially in the summer as the sleeveless detail will keep sweat away and heat slightly resistant.
For my fourth design (middle), I decided to recreate my extravagant 3D flowery design but change it up a little by making the sleeves come up behind the shirt (like a collar). The neck part of this shirt will be a V-neck shape. This is because I had not yet changed the neck part of any my shirt designs that much so far and I had wanted to do something different. This shirt will also be a cropped style. This is because I wanted the shirt to stand out even more and potentially be accepted by all ages. The downside of this shirt is that the placket goes halfway down which may be difficult for some customers with disabilities to put on.
For my fifth design (bottom right), I created a baggy sort of puffed style dress shirt. I took inspiration from petals of flowers and wanted it to be puffy and match my past designs. The placket of this shirt goes all the way down which makes it easier to put on this garment. I used Viva Glam colour themes which I had used for all of my designs but I decided to use a different splatter paint brush type for this.
After I had created each design, I then went onto printing them out and making a design board/ background to stick them onto. I then outlined my stylised faces I had created in my past work for this M.A.C and Viva Glam project then stuck them down for each design.
Overall, I really loved using the procreate app to create designs as this was quick and easy and I finished within the time given. I also loved experimenting with different brushes and loved understanding and trying to use the different things on this app!
