My Art Foundations class is learning how to sculpt. The focus is on art and science as students learn to design a creature that lives in a specific habitat, how they eat, hunt, and navigate their environment.

Several years ago I did a practice of this project and now I teach it to my students. This is a new updated version of this project for me to show my students so they can picture what they'll be making about themselves.

I went to Blake Gardens in Berkeley yesterday and took some photos in hopes of using them as reference photos for more pastel paintings. This is one of them painted in soft pastels on Lux Archival sanded paper. I painted in pastels on a wood panel for the first time! I used clear gesso and Pastel ground as a base layer and let it dry and then painted on top with my pastels. So fun!! I love how bold and bright pastels are and how you can go back and forth between lights and darks. Tomorrow in my online Friday class we will be using pastels to paint a landscape.
