Girl Genius thought of the day: considering how Violetta complains nonstop about Tarvek and their family consists entirely of backstabbers, itās interesting that weāve seen absolutely no sign of anyone trying to suborn her out of his service and into theirs. The only plausible conclusion is that they did try, years ago, a bunch of people did, and Violetta always rolled her eyes at them (less subtly as time went on) and went and told Tarvek who was Up To Something this week. Tarvek proceeded to (visibly) do nothing about it, every time. Violetta started stabbing people who hinted at it, because everything was annoying
I love how one of Martellusās main character traits is pragmatism. Sometimes it makes him horribly brutal, and sometimes it makes him politically canny. What a good! Also: fuck this guy.
honestly i realized it was tarvek from what he was sAYING, before i noticed the pince-nez or the facial expressions, and then i was like /holy shit/. like a waiter isn't gonna fucking say that to grandma sturmvoraus. tarvek???? wOULD. and i lov ehim and i missed him so much and his outfit is so stupid
I, too, love him and missed him, and his outfit is SO stupid, omg. Also, that Tarvek is like,Ā āwe need to talk about whatever diabolical machinations you have in progress,ā like, was this you? and should I be trusting you? and are you sure you have this under control?. And Grandmotherās response is to reassure him, āHm, no, youāre safe from meā, which is answering the second question (kinda heartbreaking that she knows thatās the real question, and that itās a question at all), but carefully avoiding giving him actual information. What a good, messed-up family!
idk why, maybe itās the ginger thing, but i see all the sturmvarious cousins as having freckles
violettaās covered in them, even on the skin that never actually sees the sun - itās a mystery to everyone including her
tarvekās only come out in the sun, so he never really had any when he was younger - first castle wulfenbach, then he was never allowed to leave the palace at sturmhalten - but they all start showing up once he starts spending time outside with gil and agatha (they think he looks adorable)
martellus has lots on his arms but not many on his face or anywhere else, possibly because of training outdoors?
seffie has lots on her face, particularly across the bridge of her nose, but only scatterings everywhere else, and she always used to cover them up with makeup because they werenāt fashionable (colette convinces her to start a new trend mostly because she loves how seffie looks with them)

all respect to @tflatteā and Humongulus, but not only is Humongulus not the best minor character; he isnāt even the best minor character in the train arc. How could he be, when we have Count Wolkerstorfer?
I mean, how can you not love this guy?!
in defeat:
in victory:
in noble battle:
even in thwarting Martellus!
I mean,Ā this ENTIRE PAGE:
I love him so much.
For the DVD Commentary meme: āAdditionally, look past your nose for a moment and consider: the temperament of a woman who grew up during the Long War with the blood of kings in her veins, but was forbidden, by sex and lack of spark, from seeking the throne. So she got married, and watched her daughter, a spark but still a woman, do the same, to a man whoā¦well. And now sees her granddaughterā¦ā Tarvek hoped his eyes werenāt as wide as they felt. āYou have a grudge.ā From CommuniquĆ©s.
Directorās Commentary: CommuniquĆ©s.
In my mind, the Valois linneage must come from Tarvekās mother, and before her, Grandma, because otherwise logically Aaronev wouldāve been a candidate and I get the impression he used to be less, er, completely nuts? Though Iām sure heās descended as well because all the Knights of Jove probably are one way or another.
Now, we donāt know what Tarvekās mother was like (nor Martellusās mother, who I believe was her younger sister), but we have difinitive proof that while Grandma is not a spark, she is politically savvy af, and would no doubt have made a GREAT candidate for the Lightning Throne. She was disqualified due to lack of spark (reasonable complaint - except Andronicus Valois was no spark either) and being female.
I can only assume she finds this all utter bullshit, particularly later in life, having watched Europa nearly saved by frickinā Heterodynes, then fall apart due to the machinations of this impudent vamp who was cuckholding her daughter, and then this upstart Baron waltzes in, andā¦
Tbh the realization that Grandma would totally support one of her granddaughters going for the throne did a lot to help the Storm Queen AU along, if only because I wasnāt sure how well theyād pull it off otherwise.
the royal family of Sturmhalten is so littered with classic fairy tale motifs though, and I mean the old ones where people die:
everything starts to go truly wrong for Agatha at Sturmhalten when she reveals her true name. everyone knows you arenāt supposed to do that with faeries, ever.
also she accepted food and drink
thus they could keep her
one version of changeling legends has the human child replaced with a doll enchanted to act like the lost son or daughter
āAnevka- freeze.ā (you can say built to respond to vocal commands, but I can say True Name magic and see: my first point)
the whole introduction to the Palace and Tarvek and Anevka is just so glamourous, in every sense of the word. glamorous and fantastic andā¦terrific (glamour, fantasy, terror.)
edit; how did I POSSIBLY leave off the tendency towards deception and lies with technical truth, not to mention storytelling? Agathaās first experience with them is literally in the theater, which is all of the above
