After all, a birthday is the day on which you were born in a particular year, for example, January 16, 1998, or 12.12.2003, and all subsequent "birthdays" are just a date on the calendar.

It seems to me that on this day a party is being arranged not because you were born - because this event was celebrated in due time - but because another year has passed and you have not died, 365 days, and you still alive. Like "Wow, a whole year has passed, and you have not disappeared from the face of the earth, it should be noted, we will arrange a paaarty!"
