I'd like to write a book about how all these teaching curriculums are not one size fits all. It will be about how you are not a bad teachers so long as the students are excited to learn, progress steadily and are generally respectful of their class.Then I can be a rich teaching celebrity, too.
Tweaking an existing program is OK. Accepting something blindly as gospel is not. There is no one size fits all in teaching. Sometimes I go back to reteach. Sometimes I skip ahead or combine lessons. Sometimes we move slower or faster than the pace you'd like, but it's to ensure that all my kiddos are learning.
If I have to choose between moving slower and ensuring mastery or pushing forward even if the kids don't get it, I'm going to choose reteaching.
I'm tired of buzzwords and fads and quick fixes. I'm really tired of testing and "analyzing data." I grow weary of spreadsheets and graphs and control freaks and "scope and sequence" that doesn't make sense. They're kids, not statistics. When can I get back to teaching?
