Every fanfic writer â heck, every writer â has a story that they wrote that they like but that gets very little attention from readers. For me, that story is âThatâs All We Heard About Brenda and Eddie,â an Agents of SHIELD story that I wrote on a whim. Itâs based on a misheard song lyric, and I wrote it after purposely mis-singing a Billy Joel song. And I totally get why it got no love â itâs a goofy story with really a nonexistent plot, and I wrote it as a joke for my own joy. And I put it up because it gives me joy to know that itâs out in the world, even if no one ever reads it. Thatâs why I write, ultimately â because it gives me joy, even if itâs just written for myself.
So, whatâs your story that exists just for your joy?

8) fic you worry might have hurt feels over lack of response
âThatâs All We Heard About Brenda and Eddie,â a ridiculous Agents of SHIELD fic I wrote because I sometimes sing the line from âScenes from an Italian Restaurantâ as âThey got an apartment with deep pile carpets/and a couple of agents from SHIELD.â Itâs gotten very few hits, almost no kudos, and just one comment (my response makes it look like it has two comments). Which, OK. Itâs a goofy story. But I worry it feels unloved.
9) Dark horse fic that took off
âAll in a Nightâs Work,â a story I wrote after Glee 5x15 (âBashâ). Itâs from the POV of an OC, and I didnât figure anyone would like it (because of the original character POV), but it has proven to be one of my most popular stories on AO3 (not that I have that many stories up; the most prolific of my fic-writing years were pre-AO3).

For the Glee AO3 Fest, here are my stories over on AO3. All but three of them are âGleeâ stories (the others are two White Collar stories and an Agents of SHIELD story).

Me: ::gets e-mail alerting me about new kudos on a story of which I don't recognize the title::
Me: Oh, wait. Is that the butt-plug fic?
Me: ::checks AO3:: Yes, it's the butt-plug fic.
Title: Thing 2745 Kurt Wished Heâd Been Warned About Before Parenthood
Author: Nomi
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Word count: ~370
Beta: None. This hardly deserves to be called a story.
Summary: There are many, many things Kurt never would have imagined happening before he was a parent. This is one of them.
Notes: They say, âWrite what you know.â I wrote this on the spur of the moment while making dinner and preparing to send TheHusband off to a meeting. I wonder why⌠;-)
