He has been frozen in time for an eternity. A world of war and grand cities, of secrets and exhaust fumes, has been utterly replaced by shining metal, starships & relative peace. To have awoken in a time of exploration rather than extinction should be a relief, but all Bucky feels is lost. He is a soldier, he is a broken man ---- he has no one to tell him who he should be, what he should do.
It seems logical to accept Starfleet's offer to join their ranks as a security officer. They upgrade the technology in his arm, calibrate it so he can feel at least some sensations through the shining metal. Even he has heard of the Enterprise during his recovery, & he knows what an honour it is to be accept as a member of the crew.
Of course, he is to be closely watched by the CMO. He walks into the Sickbay, hair tied back and flexing his metal fingers carefully as he looks for Leonard McCoy.

Jim snuffles slightly, only half--awake with his head on Bones' lap. He has always found it hard to sleep alone, and after a week long mission, he is glad to be back with his husband, back in his arms. He might be used to being alone, but his life is that much better with Bones in it.
