How to Survive a Boring Lecture
As much as we all love what we study at university, we do get those boring lectures where we kinda regret turning up to them - I’ve had a fair share with them. However, I have figured out how to entertain myself/make the lecture bearable.
Bring a water bottle - or any drink and set it out in front of you. The more you’re aware of it, the more you’re likely to grab it and drink it. This will hydrate you but also make you want to use the toilet - an excuse to leave the lecture.
Bring some food - we all get munchies from time to time, right? Well, drink some snacks/lunch with you to your lecture. It will keep you preoccupied and may stop you from falling asleep (you shouldn’t do this).
Make lecture notes - to make sure you’re being productive, take notes. For me personally, the teachers *usually* put the lecture slides online before the actual lecture. Whilst in the room, I get them up on my phone and write my notes from them.
Essay preparation- this is for the ones who’s lecturer’s don’t upload the lecture notes before the lecture; prepare for an upcoming essay/report. For me personally, my main source of assessment are essays. There is always something that I need to research into more dept and sometimes, I do this in a lecture.
Use your break wisely - not sure how it is for everyone else, but my lecturer’s give us a 10-15 minute break halfway through the lecture. Use this opportunity to get up and walk around for a bit. Maybe get a hot drink/food, refill your bottle or use the toilet. Walking around for a bit will also wake you up and make you feel more alert.
If you guys have anymore tips on boring lectures, feel free to leave them down below! Always on the look out for more ways to stop myself from falling asleep.
