Hi Maria this might be a weird question but when did you start drinking coffee and how often do you drink it? I don't know if i should start because i'm starting college soon and a lot of people say it helps them a lot??
Hi! Not a weird question at all!
I started drinking coffee 2 years ago, in my last year of high school and it really does help for days where you are very tired and need to get lots of work done.
I don’t drink coffee unless I need to, only if I had a bad nights sleep, so I cut out “coffee just for fun”, I’m young, active and energetic naturally.
The reason why I’m saying this is because “starting drinking coffee” isn’t a big deal ahah we’re making it sound very serious but it’s literally buying this hot fluid from time to time whenever you’re feeling like you need a pick up.
It’s like a little hug. I drink in the morning and the effect lasts all day. The more you take the less effect it has on you, so only drink it when you actually need it. My dad has to drink 3 expressos per day now. So my advice is to not drink it every day for long periods of time. Besides not being good for your health (sleep is) it’s expensive (sleep is free).
Shows like Gilmore Girls are of course an exaggeration and a lot of people in school romanticize it but once again, moderately it’s totally ok!
The maximum ammount I’ve ever had is 1 expresso or 1 lattee per week day during finals weeks. So 10 expressos during 14 days. After that it’s like 1 coffee per week during school time but I don’t really count, every week is different and it fluctuates! But I never drink more than 1 a day. And I haven’t touched coffee during summer break.
About the should I start or not, once again, it’s not a big deal! Never start doing something because you feel peer pressured to. A lot of people like it because it makes them awake and energetic without sleep. And yes it’s great for that!!
If you feel completely fine studying now, then why start?
During college if you feel like during some days you need something like that, then give it a go; there are studies that show it’s actually healthy to drink a cup of coffee once in a while!
I think your confusion is around the fact that once you drink it you have to keep drinking it consistently. That is NOT the case, you have the power to not drink it, for me it’s like trying a new food. It’s not addictive like smoking, or sodas for a better comparison.
Punch line: have a good sleeping schedule during college/school time. Sleep is better than coffee. Take coffee only when you need a pick up! Have fun and enjoy your drink!!!!Â
Pro tip: get used from the start to drink your coffee without putting any extra sugar in it! Don’t throw those sugar things they give you away, you can keep them in your kitchen or give back to the barista.
++ never drink coffee without anything in your stomach, also drink water before or after since coffee is dehydrative and can give you headaches (nothing major).
