The modern Gillott 303 nib is by turns my absolute fave and also my nemesis. I can sometimes get results out of it that I can’t get from any other, and it’s so soft and responsive ... and sometimes it’s like writing with pointy, cooked spaghetti 🍝😂 . This morning I’m practicing something I talk about only a little bit when I’m teaching beginner workshops, but anyone who’s done a next level workshop with me is already covering their ears to hide from 😂😂 being able to control each tine individually is just very important okay!! . This is one of the reasons you probably won’t catch me using an Apple Pencil ... well, also cos those things are expensive. But a pointed metal nib can give you a precision and control that no single-point stylus is ever going to imitate... you just have to put the practice in. There’s no shortcut to this stuff. I’m a bit rusty today and it shows! . The first half of this video is at 2x speed - I do NOT write that fast 😂 the diagram below is real time. . . . #calligraphynerd #learncalligraphy #lifelonglearner #studyasmuchasyoupractice #tines #tinecontrol #copperplate #progress #satisfying #asmr #sorryboutthenails #notverysorry #calligraphy #melbourne #lovemyjobthough (at Brunswick, Victoria)
