On June 24, 1932, in the early hours of dawn, Phraya Phahon Phonphayuhasena, representing the Peopleâs Party, declared the end of absolute monarchy and the birth of a constitutional regime at Dusit Palace. This moment was marked by the installation of the âPeopleâs Party Plaque,â also known as the âOrigin of the Constitution Plaque.â Inscribed with the words: âHere on June 24, 1932, at dawn, the Peopleâs Party proclaimed a constitution for the country's advancement,â the plaque embodied the radical shift in Thai governance.
After the 1947 coup, the plaque faded from public memory, only to be revived during the political upheavals of the 1970s and 1990s. By then, it became a focal point for commemorative gatherings. In 2017, however, it mysteriously disappeared. To mark the 90th anniversary of the revolution, a commemorative design was created, embedding geodetic coordinates to recall the plaqueâs original location and commemorate its political significance, re-situating the legacy of June 24 into the present.
