In the studio I’ve been drawing a lot. I had a moment of not having my good paper near me and all I could find was this canvas paper. At first I thought this material would look too textured for colored pencils and aquarelle, but I actually love it. I am interested in the ‘quality of the camera’ for my room-scape images. Almost as if these are psychedelic photographs from another dimension and this is how that technology would capture a moment. Wouldn’t it be strange if there was a camera that also could take images of our dreams and impressions of memories? Or a microphone that could record our imagined sounds, sounds we hear while reading a book, seeing words like ring, vibrate, feedback, echo, bounce, vibrato, shatter, boom, clank, clatter, tick, click, swish, etc.
I spent most of my Saturday writing love songs, and then segued into working on soundscapes for these two drawings. I just stared at the drawings for about ten minutes and started messing around in Ableton with different synthesizers and arpeggiators. I really want to get a Midi-keyboard, I would be able to do so much more. As for the love songs, I am using a classical guitar and just improvising melodies based off of some poems I wrote recently. I think love is such an interesting topic in art and is often portrayed in a negative or toxic light, but there is also so much good to be said about being in love and loving someone when it is healthy and approached with mutual respect, kindness, and a desire to understand and lift each other up.
Herbs infusing in Olive Oil. Calendula, Chamomile, and Lavender. I use this in our Essential Salves. It's been a bit few days. Nathan finished building our internal stud walls, and now I have fancy things like DOORWAYS and WALLS FOR CATS TO CLIMB. No insulation or plaster board yet, because we're waiting for our electrics to be finished before we add walls, but progress! I also finished adding labels to all of our hand creams, and I made a huge batch of Muscle Rub, so everything is fully restocked online now. The studio is still chaos, but I'm making progress - as exhibited by this fresh batch of infusing herbs and oils. I’ve been working hard despite the silence.
Above is the culmination of the week so far (it’s not done yet, only the initial pencil), but below is less juicy but still very important stuff.
