The Shootout at Studio 12, a stand-alone combat scenario for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy, is now live on itch.io!
Lights! Camera! Violence! A stand-alone combat scenario for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy.
This is sorta a little mini-module, a stand-alone scenario which implies that investigation is going on before and after it “off-screen.” We build things like this for internal playtesting - in this case we wanted to really stress-test Eureka’s firearm combat - but this one we decided to go all out on and make it to a releasable standard. Both because we wanted to let people get their hands on a demonstration of what Eureka’s combat rules can really do, and because we also really need money. Unfortunately at the time of writing this our finances are not looking great for October 2025 and we still need to make about $2,500 more before November to stay in the green. We’re hoping this release will help with that. Stay tuned for one or two more emergency releases.
Also at the time of writing this, we have also partially recorded a playthrough of this mini-module which will go up on our YouTube channel in a few months when it’s all edited and stuff. You can already find a series of helpful quick start videos for Eureka on our channel.
Here’s the hook:
Lights! Cameras! Violence!
Conspiracy is afoot, lives are at stake, and the only chance left at cracking this case wide open is the data on a single USB flash drive. The bad news is the flash drive is already in the crooked hands of Determinant Security Contractors’ notorious Hite Squad. What Determinant hasn’t realized is the investigators already know they’re holing up in the last standing soundstage of Studio 12 - the abandoned remains of some long defunct production company. Because the data is protected by a rotating encryption, by this time tomorrow it might be too late. There's one shot for the investigators to get what they need, and get out. It all comes down to this.
Originally meant for playtesting and demonstration purposes, The Shootout at Studio 12 is a playable stand-alone combat scenario for Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy. Designed with danger in mind, it is meant to push the limits of the moving parts Eureka can comfortably handle in a single engagement. Copious combatants. Exceptionally high lethality. No holds barred. Over sixty pages, one fight. A Eureka experience unlike any other to date, Studio 12 is a gauntlet. System mastery, caution, cunning, and courage must be levied if you hope to see your investigators live to tell the tale, let alone succeed in their task.
Studio 12 can be expected to take anywhere from 1-5 sessions. The scenario begins with the investigators just outside the perimeter of the soundstage. They will need to get in, locate and obtain the flash drive, and get away. They will have ten Ticks to do so. The titular shootout is likely to last a for greater number of rounds than typical Eureka combat. It is nearly impossible to succeed without some sort of direct engagement.
