Even though I'm nothing like one of those keen feminist fans of Jane Austen, I have to admit no other quotation would suit better than this one.

I'm an Italian Modern Languages and Literatures university student who is spending 6 months abroad, in Duesseldorf - Germany.

This blog will be about general impressions and personal thoughts about living here and studying abroad, germany, lifestyles, being blonde and pale and (still) being italian, partying, bad hair days, friends, new life changing discoveries, missing my cat and whatever.

Maybe I can't speak French fluently, and maybe I get flustered when people address me - but I can definitely order a beer!

We spent only 3 days in Paris - they were the fastest, most exhausting and exhilarating 3 days ever. Everyone in Paris moves and talks so fast all the time. Following the group around was so fun - I had to pick someone from the group's back and keep watching them while speed walking down the street.

But there were, luckily, also many opportunities to break away from the group. Yesterday me and a few others decided not to visit the Louvre (I know) and just head to a cafe and chill out. It was great and it totally cured the hangover I had from the previous night which was the night which shall not be named/talked about ever (hopefully ever again).

Those three days were such an emotional roller coaster for so many reasons, but for the most part they were great. (Everyone in Paris speaks English though - or so it seemed - so I didn't really get to practice my French a whole lot.. Ugh, I just freeze up when someone asks me something or tries to talk to me, and then I feel stupid as hell.) We've only been in Besancon for a few hours - but it definitely doesn't seem like anyone here speaks English so it's going to be more difficult. I'm really dreading having to get around all by myself - I'll have to figure out the buses and remember where I live and speak French to people in order to buy anything.

Tomorrow we are taking a tour of the city and maybe tonight we'll go see the CLA where I'll be going to class. Hopefully that clears some stuff up for me.
