Replacing the +40 years old, tired and oxydized "CALIBRATION" switches eventually allows normal, easy audio alignment of the A80VU... as this short vid demonstrates it: first half shows channel 1's switch in operation before replacement, second half the very same component AFTER replacement. . Gerhard's restoration (cont') . Still working on the recapping of the twelve Reproduce Preamplifier PCBs . All old polarized caps removed, installed the 8-pin DIL sockets for the forthcoming NE5532 op-amps, re-routed the signals accordingly... recapping may now commence! 😉 . But first things first: before soldering the new capacitors in, they must be prepared by having their legs' pitch adapted so that the caps can be more easily and more quickly fitted into the holes of the PCB. . Gerhard's restoration (cont') . Now working on the Reproduce Preamplifier boards 1.080.804 . After having desoldered ALL polarized caps (was a hell of a mixture of original, '70s Studer tantalums as well as either new tants or a blend of different electrolytic caps' brands... what's more, not of the high quality names you'd expect in a high-end Studer recorder 😥), and after having replaced the TBA931 op-amp 14-pin sockets with 8-pin ones to host the more modern (that is, much lower noise floor) NE5532s, current step is to prepare the 5 x 12 = 60 wire jumpers that will enable the use of the new op-amps (of course, all compensation components for the old TBA931s have been removed). Then I'll move on to soldering the new capacitors 😉 .
