Realistic Study Tip of the Day
Use. Your. Planner.Â
I’m not kidding. It will change your life. Not only can I testify to this, but I hear this from every person who went from never using a planner to using one religiously.
I didn’t religiously use one until this year and my grades are so much better, its unreal. I literally have A’s in all classes but one. You obviously still have to do the work IN your planner though.
Start the semester off by writing each of your syllabi (plural of syllabus?) in your planner. Even if things change or are TBA, you’ll still know when to begin expecting them.Â
I have not missed a single advisor appointment or doctor’s appointment or anything because I have written it all down.Â
And you feel majorly professional when you use your planner. It doesn’t have to be a perfect bujo. Honestly, I bought mine at Walgreens for pretty cheap and it isn’t the cutest. I scribble dates in and yeah - it isn’t pretty at all. But it more than gets the job done.Â
I also prefer highlighting what I have done versus just crossing it out so I can see what assignments I have finished.
I will use a planner for the rest of my life until I die because of how much it has helped me stay on track this year. And I promise this is realistic. You just have to make yourself use the planner everyday for about a month before it becomes a habit.Â
You can also use the Outlook calendar. Personally, I don’t use it although our school email addresses are automatically connected to Outlook.Â
I also take everything I am expecting for the next couple of weeks from my planner and write them on a little dry-erase board I have in my room. Once I’ve done something I just erase! Easy peasy, kids.Â
Happy Studying!
Hemingway App Review
(The italicized words and sentences represent the highlighted sections by the Hemingway editor)
Original Review:Â
This editor grades paragraphs based on readability, which is a bit of a double edged sword. Yes, it's a great tool to point out which sentences MAY had been overly complex, and needs a bit of correction. For writing complex material that requires longer in-depth explanations, this app falls short. Marking sentences that only lower leveled readers may struggle with, for correction. Which encourages short, simplified, dull, and choppy sentences that do not flow well nor elegantly at all.
I would recommend this app for writing pick a part essays and other analytical pieces, but only as a base draft for everything else. Which is why this app should only be used as a tool to help condense and clear up writings for a base draft. Afterwords, throw in some adverbs to dramatize and describe scenes in stories, philosophical pieces, and posts. If you please, that is. Keep in mind that some will have to adapt the way they type if using this app for posts, the Hemingway editor will mark out all adverbs. Which will result in your writings being less descriptive.Â
