The Space Shuttle Atlantis began it’s 10 day 19 hour mission (STS-86) on 25 September 1997.
Commander James Wetherbee, Pilot Michael Bloomfield, and Mission Specialists Jean-Loup Chrétien, Michael Foale, Wendy Lawrence, Scott Parazynski, Vladimir Titov, and David Wolf docked with Russian Space Station Mir and exchanged supplies and crew. Physician David Wolf became the 6th US astronaut to live on Mir.
