Trip to Scarborough Bluffs
August 19, 2015Â
Instead of going to oh-so-overdone Woodbine Beach, Malin last-minute changed the location to the beautiful Scarborough Bluffs. It was slightly further as it required an extra 4 stops on the subway, a bus, and a 30 minute walk but it was well worth the effort. Even though we didn’t go to the focal points of the Bluffs (ie. the cliffs and the mountains), the beach was wonderful and the water temperature was perfection. We even got to go “rock-climbing” and take a bunch of pictures on top of rocks (plus, on a island-like rock)!
I think I rocked my new bikini pretty well. It stayed on at the very least haha. The best part was that I somewhat balanced my shorts, stomach, and back tan so I don’t look deathly pale in one part and frighteningly dark on the other part (although, a week later, my shorts tan is back sadly). I was better off than Malin, who started to give us the face because her tan line messed up haha.Â
Two emergencies happened today that involved the lifeguards: one person got a severe heat stroke and at the same time, a child was reported to be lost. At first, they called everyone out of the water because there would no one to supervise the swimmers while both lifeguards attended to the person with the heat stroke. But, the second time they called everyone out of the water, it was entirely different reason: they worried that the child was underwater. The lifeguards called on anyone who “would be willing to help and is comfortable in water”. All of us went to go help’ the lifeguards told us to line up in a line in the water, link arms, and begin shuffling our feet at the bottom of the lake floor. I was surprised when she said to tell her if we felt anything at our feet. I didn’t want to feel anything. Eventually, she got a call over her walkie-talkie that they had found the child, but she didn’t tell us if he was alive or not. I haven’t seen anything in the news, so let’s hope for the best.Â
Well, to lighten up the mood, as Nina, Cassandra, and I were making our way back to the bus, we saw a mini hiking trail that went straight up. We decided to go and boy, was it worth it. The cliff overlooked the parking lot but beyond that, we could see the expanses of the lake and it was beautiful. I even got to see Nina fall on time and save herself from falling another time by doing some sort of break-dancing move while we were hiking down!Â
Nonetheless, it was a great day, especially since I wouldn’t be seeing Malin, Mary, and Maddie (oh, look at all the “M’s”) in university. Although the other half of them are all going to Waterloo (typical St.Rob’s to Waterloo statistics), so for me, it was just another one of wonderful days of fun to come!Â
