Most recent StringBing assignment was to do a little animation in straight ahead then do it again in pose to pose. Top one is pose to pose and the bottom is straight ahead.Â
I’m a little confused because despite a lot of effort and time to try and make the pose to pose more betterer it still kind of lacks the snappiness the straight ahead has. And I did that one in an hour...Â
Hi @nadafsayed! I thought of your response for a while, and I thought it would be a good discussion to further learn about this animation skill.Â
I just recently watched @stringbing‘s video (video link, it starts around 4:02) about traditional animation habits for digital animators, and he goes right into the purpose of rolling and flipping when we animate. If we can see the changes of the character/subject as we animate (before we test), it will help us achieve our goal for that scene.Â
Playback is still a great tool to have and use, and to make those fixes afterwards - in the meantime, we can use rolling and flipping to help us see that motion and timing as we’re doing the animation.  I also found another video (video link) that talks a little more for why we use flipping in animation.Â
I hope this helps you, and sorry for the wait on responding back. Let me know if you have more questions for this topic. :)Â
My first attempt at animating one of my own character designs (as part of a StringBing assignment). Keeping it ruff for now till I get more confident...
Finished the Basic Assignments part of the StringBing Workshop! I can really recommend this course, Toniko Pantoja really knows how to make all this crazy animation lark very accessible!

Another StringBing assignment. Didn’t want to use same character as Toniko so I used a sort of Moomin instead.
This’ll be the last cute animation for a while as I intend to use my Demon Princes character designs for the upcoming assignments, which will be a lot harder I expect, fingers crosses it goes well!.
Suddenly Inspired Again
I’ve always wanted to create things. I’m not always sure what, but I always need to make /something/. That’s part of why I’m doing ThinkGaming - it gives me a schedule to just make something, anything, even if I’m just playing through a game and messing with editing in Final Cut. My ultimate goal for years has been to animate, though. I get distracted or discouraged at times, but that’s been my endgame for a long time. Cartoons and anime got me through a lot and taught me a lot growing up, and I know lots of people who feel the same way. That’s why I feel like it’s my turn to create something that a lonely or confused or bored kid can watch and just…become incredibly involved with. And adults do it, too, obviously. Cartoons aren’t just for kids - And I resent that a lot of people seem to think that's the case, for whatever reason. But I want to be able to reach out to people like that, the ones that really need it and the ones that just enjoy it. I’m mostly going on this rant because I revisited stringbing ’s Tumblr. Rewatching those films he made inspired me again, just like the first time. People like him and rebeccasugar remind me of the magic I want to capture and share; That /something/ that comes with bringing characters to life and sharing them with the world. I guess this is just me saying thank you to all of the animators and storyboard artists and artists in general that have inspired me, and continue to inspire me to pursue my passions. I hope I can create something as meaningful and heart warming as they have one day. Maybe I can inspire someone, too.
