Leaves on the floor. Encaustic tiles in the church of St Nicholas, Abbotsbury #dorset. Pevsner's guide says they are Minton's but I'm not convinced. #streetsofclay #tilesofinstagram #tilelady #ihavethisthingswithtiles #mintons #victorian (at Abbotsbury, Dorset) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTCbdlHKHjt/?utm_medium=tumblr

South Western Pottery was a major industry in Lower Parkstone from 1856 until the the factory closed in 1976 and the site was redeveloped. Their staple product was drainpipes but they also had range of high quality terracotta and bricks which can still be spotted in the streets around the former pottery site. Much of it is in a distinctive cream colour but occasionally features were made in the orange terracotta. The three photos are all of different properties in the same road in Parkstone near Ashley Cross. One house has been demolished for re-development leaving behind just one terracotta sphere on the gatepost as a lonely witness.
