Vivian sighed as she put the bags of takeout on the kitchen table. Â Three weeks, now, and she was actually adapting to having a semi-permanent passenger.
She and Venom had discussed the situation, and until a better host could be found, she was willing to keep him around.
Not that she would be able to kick him out, even if she wanted to!
But he’d been reasonably polite, aside from demands for certain kinds of food, and sometimes at inconvenient times. Â
There had been no more manifestations of the ‘Tar Baby From Hell,’ much to her relief.
Venom had a certain dark sense of humor, and he sometimes made snarky comments about some of her more annoying co-workers that made it difficult not to laugh. Â He was careful not to distract her when she was working, too.
All-in-all, he was quite possibly the most considerate roommate Vivian had ever lived with. Â Even if he did eat enough for a small army.
He even liked her cats—calling them ‘small predators,’ and was especially taken with Lurk’s antics: the six month old kitten was a handful, and liked to stalk, hide under the furniture, and he was the reason she had put shoelace locks on her sneakers: he liked to untie things.
Dustmop, her 20 pound mackerel tabby Maine Coone cat was more of a furry goofball, but he’d won Venom over as well.
Vivian wondered if some of her own attitudes and opinions were being adopted by the symbiont.
Vivian found her new appetite a little disconcerting, but consoled herself with the fact that she could now eat as much as she wanted without negative consequences. Â
