there's a lot to be said about how farmers and ranchers are the vanguard of the colonial project that continues to rape and scar the world and how they think of their land as their own private fiefdom that they're able to do with whatever they want and "protect" in whichever way they see fit
like does anybody think about how europeans (specifically brits) turned their home into a wasteland by fucking the corpse of the land into a place filled almost entirely with empty lawns and tinderbox pastures and systematically exterminating all the "predators" and "vermin" who would dare step foot on their precious land and harm their precious livestock, and how exporting that mentality across the world to places that had learned their own bespoke sustainable ways to work with the land only exacerbates our own destruction? like there were forest gardens, rivers stuffed with fish, a land altered irrevocably by human hands but not by working against it, but with it. the project of dozens, hundreds of generations burnt to a crisp in just a handful. nobody shot the wolves and burned the forests to make room for a couple hundred livestock until the colonists came and did that. now the world is sliced up into a few hundred monoculture megafarms that produce inedible corn to feed to the cattle that live on whatever's left, and farmers burn the corpses of their diseased livestock to lure the last few starving wolves to justify shooting them
all that blood and ash for a kingdom of dogs.
