A pesky bug in the system
i’m so obsessed with spydoc specifically because i think their dynamic is so fundamentally different from all the other iterations of thoschei and it’s so deliciously tragic.
missy’s betrayal hurt the doctor more than any of the master’s previous betrayals and they can’t bring themselves to really forgive the master this time. the doctor spent so much time and energy trying to lead the master towards a better way of living life and towards rebuilding their relationship. they got so close just for missy to still revert back to her old ways and betray the doctor. of course, in the end she didn’t really betray him but the doctor doesn’t know that, leaving the doctor very bitter towards the master following the events of the doctor falls.
then you have the master that went through a whole identity crisis. first they were split between missy and the master, not really sure which version of themselves feels truer to them - as in one that stands with the doctor or the one that can’t. and then to make things worse, they discover the truth about the timeless child. they discover that their whole species was built on a lie and that the doctor, the one person in the whole universe they considered their equal, is not their equal at all, they are so much more and the master exists only because of them and this leads the master to spiral completely out of control.
and then you put these two together and it creates a very insane dynamic - the master that is more conflicted about their feelings towards the doctor than ever and the doctor seemingly running out of the endless second chances they give to the master. literally the lowest point in their relationship since their initial fall out. leaves you wondering where do they even go from here
