    The words give Jesse pause, and he looks back up towards the archer, pursing his lips as he mulled them over. They’re unexpected from the other man- but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value in them. Even if Jesse’s never going to openly admit that, even to himself.

      A reassurance in itself is rare between people who’ve gone through this time and time again, scenario after scenario. Jesse’s not entirely sure if it was nice or aggravating.

      “Who do ya take me for? I ain’t given up just yet, don’t get all excited now.”

     His words are boisterous, overconfident and overcompensating (to mask defensiveness, maybe), and he turns to fully face the man, but the weariness that tainted his words before have left his tone, and he stands a little taller than he had before.

  there’s a flicker of amusement in those blue eyes, though brief, fleeting as it’s quickly swallowed down by the rough growl of a voice that rumbles their air. “it’s not your duty, nor choice, to stop me, is it? i have my orders, you have yours. i suggest you learn to obey them, soldier.”

    The words are cold coming from the assassin’s mouth, and there's a jump in his stomach, a grin that crosses his face in time with the bite of the arrowhead. The wood creaks behind him, the shaft burns under the muscle. Another causality in the line of fire, he’s another notch on someone’s weapon. This one’s weapon.

     But he won’t be idle, he’s pulling with shaking hands, trying to dig the arrow out from the wall he’s pinned to like a grim crucifixion, a fixture in blood flesh and steel.
