STORYTELLING I was driving back from @btc.bakeadifference with a most miraculous slice of mint cream cookie cake and I just knew it was going to disappear. 😋 I reached for my phone as I wanted to take a photo to show my son who would be as impressed as me by a cake that contained slices of my favourite mint cream dark chocolate! Except I had left it at home on charge. I reflected on how I might describe it to him and it occurred to me to wonder, have we lost the art of storytelling? When a picture speaks a thousand words and images have become so accessible, are we in danger of losing the art of listening to a story with patience anticipation, which describes a thing or an event that we have not seen or experienced? Delving into my ancestral history, it is difficult to find much pure lore from pre-Roman times. Before the Romans very little was recorded in writing. Stories were told orally and it was a finely honed talent to be able to seize and hold the attention of an audience however small. I love images, I create them, o commission them as more and more of us love to do. The story flows through the image. As a fixed point in place and time an image can even limit the imagination depending on the subject matter. When stories flow through bodies and voices what power is there? We still have storytellers amongst us. They gravitate to food and fire. Perhaps to a cosy room before rest where eager faces ask for stories as it is too dark and too late to read. The teller gives life to the story. I listen to the Earth, the Wind, the Fire, the River and the Ocean. Some stories have been given to me. What more secrets will we learn if we are silent? #shashaspiritledlife #storeytelling #storeytellers #actors #witchesofinstagram #riverwitch #cake #oraltradition #magick #ancestors #moon https://www.instagram.com/p/CcnRwZMoOVH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
