i make little silly ones and usually post them on my twitter but now that i use tumblr frequently enough i just might post them here as well!!

I think I like the designs we ended up getting the best for more or less the whole High Commission (at least when I imagine the personalities they had in the series, so things might have been different if they were different, since design always influences characterization as well), even if I have to admit they went with the “safest” option in most cases - not that’s a bad thing.

The mountains-as-shoulders Omnitraxius would have been cool, paradoxically giving him a better sense of scale than the universe themed one we ended with, but it wouldn’t have worked as well with his multiverse theme. 

The first, lanky, Hekapoo has an interesting design, and would have worked very well for a more mysterious and creepy kind of character. Definitely not a fit for the canon personality. Last one, with the candles on her head, is nice as well.

All the Lekmets are good, even if the bottom, smaller ones would fit more a spirit of the forest / vagabond kind of character. I think I might like the designs with the bells more than the canon one, conceptually, but the hood seems to be an important part of it, and covering his face wouldn’t have worked with all the exasperated expressions he makes at Rhombulus in Crystal Clear.

All the Rhombolus are good, but extremely different: weird alien luchador monster alligator; wizard lair security system golem, bounty hunter with a mysterious and creepy gimmick, Rhombulus but way too cool looking; oracle; gorgon with a spin. 

Sorry but I have to disagree again, if anything Hekapoo has been characterized, as far as Disney censors would have allowed, as someone who only goes for booty calls and relationships with no commitments and string attached, with gratuitous flirting with Marco’s adult (and sometimes not adult, much to my cringing) form. I see nothing stable in this, and definitely nothing that could have helped Marco grow and mature as a person - if anything in Night Life his adventure’s with her were built around the dichotomy wife, family and duties - escapades with no responsibilities the episode used as a metaphor for Marco having to come to terms between loving spending time with Star more than anything, and needing an outlet for all the pain his recently discovered feelings for Star brought him. And while it didn’t revolve specifically around Hekapoo as a person, Running With Scissors used her dimension and Marco initially wanting to stay there as a metaphor for running away from duties and responsibilities to seek a life of thrills and easy emotions as well. 

And while she ended up staying and helping & it was probably meant mostly as a joke (and a Shawn of the Dead referenced) without any deeper meanings, in Divide her first instincts after their plans for Meteora failed was to run away and let things sort out by themselves. So while it’s not by any means what I’d call an important theme in the series, most of Hekapoo’s moments with Marco were diametrically opposed to one would call mature, ranging from “haha Hekapoo is very chill with her responsibilities” to “Hekapoo is a stand in for escapism in this episode”.

As for what a fifth season could potentially cover (it’s never going to happen anyway so don’t worry about it)... no idea. Series ended with Star and Marco finally being able to live their lives as normal teens, their adventures with saving kingdoms and trying to change whole class systems being over, so if the writers wanted to keep all progress and go forward without backtracking on any theme and developments, the scope of the series might have to change a little, shifting to something even more focused on the characters and their growth and interactions. Maybe something close to what Steven Universe Future was to the original series. I’d actually love to see something like that, a shorter season aimed at a slightly more mature audience (within the limits of the channel), heavily focused on showing what changed and what’s going to change for the characters following the end of the main plot - and the whole world changing.
