I never know exactly when it happens, but every so often I get this craving for a proper dose of ‘Star Trek’. At the moment, I’m re-watching the films and episodes of “TOS” and “TNG”, and re-reading my favourite books and fanfics. You’ve no idea what a balm for the soul this is, especially as I keep realising just how absolutely brilliant and relevant so much of these series still is. When I look at the Bajorans, the Marquises and the Cardassians, I see the Palestinians (the Bajorans) and the Israelis (the Cardassians). I ignore all the new Star Trek spin-offs because they’re not Star Trek anymore, but golly, I’ll always be a fan of the old shows and movies (all the way up to and including Voyager).

It never stood out to me how many fuckin kids in Utah are named Riker until we watched Star Trek
