dead girl walking
The road so far had been so tumultuous for her. Her thoughts scattered like tumbling glasses that collided against the hard surface of the tiled floor, finally shattering into million pieces that gleamed dangerously when in contact with the revealing sunlight. Subconsciously, her fingers fumbled with the pendant belonging to the necklace she loved most. A soft fragrance wafted from the sentimental antique, it was a scent she had grown familiar to with the years— vervain. And with it, a thousand memories rushed into her mind, fomenting the daily torture she endures. Her breathing grew uneven then. Safely lodged within her chest, the thumping heart accelerated as if late for a rendezvous. She couldn't understand. And not for lack of trying. She just couldn't find plausible reasons to explain why he had abandoned her to pursue some soul-consuming vengeance. Every day proved to be a new challenge. From the moment she opened her eyes to the one where she half hauled herself to bed. She no longer had reasons to get up from bed yet somehow she managed to do it. Without failure. Perhaps it was the warrior inside her that refused to be brought to her knees like a captured spoil of war. But even her headstrong spirit found itself spiraling down into the abyss of oblivion where color was not permitted entrance. Her world had been stripped of vibrant color. And she was now part of one of those old black and white movies. Socializing only existed when strictly necessary. The thought alone sucked away every last bit of energy left in her. For that reason, one by one, her friends ceased every attempt to keep her company. And she couldn't even blame them for it. She was alone. She behaved like a zombie. She was a dead girl walking.
