Years later, a fifteen-year-old orphan named Stiles and his foster-brother, Scott, go wandering in the woods. They’re meant to be hunting, but neither feel up for it. Stiles catches a glimpse of something and chases after it, getting separated from Scott. He stumbles upon the house of a warlock named Deaton who takes it upon herself to educate the young man. He tells Stiles that he is destined for greatness and gives him a talisman that Stiles recognises; it once belonged to his father. 

Before Deaton can explain, he disappears and Scott comes running over to his brother’s side. They return to the castle run by Scott’s father, Sir Rafael.

When they return, they run into one of Rafael’s knights, Sir Theo, who tells them that a tournament will be held in a few weeks and the victor will be crowned king. Rafael puts forward that his son to compete, assigning Stiles to be his squire boy.

Weeks later, on the day of the tournament, Stiles discovers that Theo has been working with a witch, Kate, in order to cheat his way to victory and become the new king. When Theo discovers that Stiles has overheard his plot, he chases the boy into the forest.

Stiles, scared and lost, stumbled upon the legendary sword in the stone. Not knowing the prophecy and scared for his life, Stiles effortlessly pulls the sword from the stone. He fights off Theo and runs back to the city.

Upon seeing Stiles with the sword, Rafael calls off the tournament and tells Stiles to take him to where he found the sword. Stiles obeys and Rafael puts the sword back in the sword. Now thinking that anyone can draw the sword he asks his son and the knights of the kingdom to try and draw the sword, but no one can. Finally, Scott encourages him to pull the sword out of the stone once more.

Stiles hesitantly steps forward, placing his hand on the hilt and drawing the blade, effortlessly, from the stone.

One by one, those who watch on bow down kneeling before the new and rightful king of England.

Days later, Stiles is crowned king, but he feels lost and confused. He hides away, trying to come to terms with everything that’s happened. His thoughts are interrupted when a young prince from a neighbouring kingdom comes to visit him.

“If you ask me, a crown doesn’t make a king,” the young prince tells him. “A heart does. You have a good heart. You’ve always been a friend to the people and know what is right for the kingdom. Your people trust you and they will follow you. You’ll be a good king, maybe the best this kingdom has ever known. You just need to find your way.”

“I’m not sure how to do that,” Stiles admits.

“If I might suggest, start by gathering your knights; the people you trust the most. Your brother, for instance.”

“And you?” Stiles asks.

The young prince seems shocked. “You don’t even know me.”

“Then you had better tell me your name.”

“Derek,” he replies. “Derek Hale.”
