Family is a bit of a complicated topic for Andre, and the feelings that come with it even more so. There are those who are family by name only, such as his parents, who he loved at one point but would now rather be separated from. It had been many years since they last lived up to the title of parent, and at this point in his life, they are all but dead to him. ...and yet he still adheres to their demands.
His true family, however, would be his sister and niece. He is particularly close to Stella, having all but raised her himself and being her sole comforter and relative who actually gave a damn about her well being. While they fought quite a bit, as siblings tend to do, Andrealphus still loves and cares about her, and is protective of Stella.
This same love and care extends to Octavia, his niece. While they are not nearly as close as he is to Stella, that doesn't mean he loves her any less. This was more prominent when Octavia was younger and in his care while her parents were out, but as she grew older, they grew distant. Between that and the falling out between her parents, Andrealphus isn't sure if their relationship can be repaired, a thought that has brought him sadness.
