Astral threads have proven themselves to be far more fascinating than we originally thought!
By using their inherent property of multiversal connection, our physicists were able to discover a phenomenon of astral splitting. The idea is to employ the threads as a tether to other universes, which would allow us to pin-point a specific region of space within the Commonwealth where realities briefly intersect one another and "kiss", so to speak. Once the region is located, an artificial tear could be created by weaving the astral threads into the fabric of space and splitting it apart, hence the name.
However, doing this too often will run the risk of our galaxy unravelling entirely into astral threads. We would be able to do it only once in a long while.
