I've been working on this since 2021 but I have this post s2 fic where Din is the space equivalent of a space trucker and spends the whole fic talking on the comms to the Armorer as if she's on the other line. It's very much inspired by the podcast Alice Isn't Dead and it's very outside my comfort zone writing style wise but its really cool

DIN DJARIN:
I got stuck next to a philosopher on a bounty years ago. I was scoping out a bounty in a cantina, I don’t remember the planet. He didn’t understand that looking at him meant “kark off” and not “take this free seat.” He kept talking and talking about the sky, about the emptiness of it all, how we fill that emptiness with hyperspace lanes and focus on the planets, ignoring the space between.
I didn’t hear his whole manifesto, I was trying to focus on the target.
I don’t know why I just remembered that.

send me a 👀 and i’ll post a snippet of writing that i never got around to finishing this year!

ok i know this prompt is like 3 months old, but i finally finished it! (and lets ignore how im clearly using this as an excuse to avoid working on far more intimidating projects ^^; )
anyway, here’s pure din & grogu fluff. didn’t intend for this to be over 1k words, but i guess my days of 300-600 word prompt fills are over lol

Din exits the cantina, running the name “Gor Koresh” through his mind. He has a new heading for someone who can help him find other Mandalorians and then hopefully find these wizards that the Child needs.
His helmet filters out most of the noise as he walks back through town, the kid’s cradle trailing alongside him. The sky is a dusky pink as the last of this planet’s suns are beginning to set. Everyone seems to be out and about, humans and other sentient species alike, filling up the walkways and roads.
He’s already plotting the hyperspace route in his mind when he spots movement out of the corner of his eye. He steps to the side to keep out of the way of the foot traffic and looks down at the kid.
Familiar brown eyes look up at him. A clawed finger pokes out of the cradle and across the street. Din looks up and sees a playground, with several kids climbing on the rungs, sliding down the slides, and pushing each other on the swings.
“No, kid, we can’t. We-”
The Child looks at him and points more forcefully. He opens his mouth and lets out a burble of noises, like he’s constructing a well thought out argument.
Din looks back at the playground and sighs. “Five minutes, then we have to go.”
The Child smiles as they cross the street, ducking between carts and groups of people passing.
The playground is surrounded by purple grass and several benches, most of which are already filled with parents. He sets the Child on the ground, and as his little feet touch the ground, he zooms off for the jungle gym, climbing the stairs to the slide with such ferocity, he goes on all fours.
Din finds an empty bench and sits down. He pokes at his gauntlet, letting the kid’s cradle settle to the ground.
As he watches the Child run around, joining the quick games the other kids make, Din finds himself unnervingly fidgety. He can’t think of the last time he could just sit down and not do something else. He can’t program the ship to Gor Koresh without his ship’s computer, the cradle doesn’t need a tune-up, and he obviously can’t leave Grogu unattended here.
He’s not sure how long his brain runs in circles with these thoughts when someone sits down beside him. He doesn’t startle, but he does straighten his spine.
For a while, the person – a Togruta, just off from work based on their clothing – doesn’t say anything. That doesn’t last as he watches Grogu chase a human kid around the base of the rope bridge.
“First one?” they ask.
Din looks over at them. Their tall montrals make them half a head taller than Din and he has to fight the urge to look up.
“I don’t know what you mean.”
The Togruta is undeterred. “Is he your first kid? You’re watching him like a hawk.”
“I- yes.”
They smile. “I remember those days. You think as long as you’re in eye sight of them, no harm will come to them. It gets easier, I swear. unless you’re like me and got saddled up with twins.”
A screech from the swings comes just in time. He looks over and sees twin Togruta shouting “Higher! Higher!” as they swing, forcing the taller Togruta between them to run between, pushing them each in turn.
“I’m not… planning on another.”
They laugh. “Understandable. He seems like a little handful.”
They both turn to the playground. The Child is currently reaching for the monkey bars. A twi’lek boy is already halfway across, swinging artfully, so his hands don’t miss a single rung.
“Yeah, he is.”
The Child reaches out toward the rungs, clawed fingers outstretched. He jumps, a little hop really, and falls down, flat on his face.
Before Din knows what he’s doing, he’s on his feet, heart pounding. The Togruta is on their feet as well, a hand hovering over Din’s chestplate. They’re not touching, but the arm across stops him in place.
“Woah, woah, wait a minute, Mando!” they say. “Let him get his bearings.”
They both turn back to the Child, who’s sitting up now. He shakes his head, ears flapping before looking around. He stops when he spots Din. Din is struck still for a moment, seeing oceans in those big brown eyes.
“You okay?” Din asks, holding a thumbs up.
The kid toddles over, until he’s at Din’s feet. He holds his arms up and Din hesitates for a second before picking him up. The kid isn’t crying, surprisingly, but Din still checks him over for injuries.
“See, you’re okay,” he says, mostly to himself.
The Child smiles at that.
The Togruta has sat back down. “See? Sometimes you gotta let them decide what they want. IF you had run over there, he would’ve assumed something was wrong and started crying.”
Din nods, fingers tracing the Child’s ear. “Thank you.”
“It’s my pleasure.” They’re interrupted by their kids screaming. They look over to the swings before rolling their eyes and standing up.
“Looks like I’m needed as moderator. Have a good night, Mando. And to you, little one.”
He nods again. “You too.”
The Child waves as they walk away.
Alone, Din sits back down on the bench. “Are you done? Wanna head back to the ship?”
The Child frowns before pointing to the swings. The Togruta kids are no longer there, replaced with two humans who seem to be doing more talking than swinging, but the baby swings are free.
“Alright, a couple of minutes on them, but then we go, okay?”
The Child gives him a wide smile and he takes that as a yes. He stands up, nodding to the Togruta before walking over to the swings. The Child gets more and more excited to closer they approach, until he’s practically squirming out of his arms.
“Hold on, buddy.”
He sits the Child in the seat and then starts pushing him gently. The little guy squeals in joy and flaps his arms. Din pushes his seat a little harder and the Child’s screams somehow get even louder.
It takes a moment for Din to realize why his cheeks are hurting; he can’t remember the last time he’s smiled this much.
The sun has nearly fully set below the horizon by the time Din plucks the Child from the swing. He’s not entirely enthused with playtime coming to an end, but his big eyes droop from tiredness, so there’s not much of a fuss raised.
“Did you enjoy that?” Din asks, placing him in his cradle.
The Child coos from behind.
The streets are far emptier now, only a few stragglers from the commute mixing in with people about to hit up the town’s night life. All give him a wide berth as they spot his armor under streetlamps.
They’re almost at the ship when they pass a kebab stand. The scent invades his helmet and the Child lets out a loud coo. Din glances back and sees the Child is far more awake than he was a couple minutes ago.
Well, he did take a big fall today. And the trip to Gor Koresh’s last known location would be a couple of days away via hyperspace, so they’d be stuck with rations for the whole trip.
“You can have one.”
They get two, one for the Child and one for him, but if he only eats half and lets the Child finish his off as he plugs in the hyperspace coordinates back on the ship, well, that doesn’t mean anything, does it?
kappa. kappa oh my god. EXQUISIT SELECTION OF WIPS YOU GOT THERE i would like a preview of dincobb pirate au???? HELLO?? that sounds absolutely amazing
Im the biggest sucker for pirate aus and it finally clicked how to make it Mando! I'm planning on posting it soon (dincobb week is two weeks away, oh god)
"I used to be on a ship, but not like you. I was a galley slave on an Imperial ship, but before then I had dreams of being as free as you, traveling the waters on a boat with a crew of my own.” Cobb's face fell. “Haven’t thought about that dream… for a while.”
To have something that should have meant freedom be taken away from you, Din couldn’t imagine.
“But you got out?”
“Kriff, yes. Raised a mutiny, sunk those fuckers to the bottom of the sea, then sailed here and set up shop. Few more people joined, some left, but it’s as home as we can get.”
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
See, this is the thing... I still have like 50+ Star Wars WIPs that I haven't touched from last year that I'm still at least a little bit interested in bringing back once Mando s3 comes back. In terms of Dimension 20, I have at least have one WIP I'd like to finish. Optimally, I'd like to get fully back on the D20 saddle because I fell off for no good reason but we'll see!
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
This is from the D20 WIP I'd still like to finish. I was having a lot of fin with this horror-adjacent wip, but just fell off the wagon (how many idioms can i come up with lol).

They turned one more corner and now had only the slimmest beam of sunlight to guide them. Shadows layered over one another as the dancing lights bobbed around her.
This would do nicely.
Binx dispelled the lights, figuring it would be better to use the dark to her advantage. She took a deep breath, extended her arm into the shadows and reached for Andhera, thinking of his warmth, his laughter, the scent of storms that wafted off of him.
Her fingers wiggled as she sensed him-
And then something dry and cold grabbed back and pulled.
30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
After months of nothing and being burnt out on Star Wars fics, it was really surprising that I got into Dimension 20 and had a couple of weeks of hyper focus on that and I really enjoyed writing those fics!

8. does anyone in your personal life know you write fic? if not, would you tell anyone?
Yes! At least two people do, and I've known each of them for 4+ years
9. what's your writing process like?
Sit down at my computer, cue up music that fits the vibe, hopefully start writing. If I'm feeling serious, I'll get food and drink before I start writing.
18. Do you only write when you’re inspired, or do you try and sit down at specific times and write no matter what?
Usually it's when I'm feeling inspired, but if I have a deadline like a fandom event or I'm doing National Novel Writing Month, I'll try my best to write no matter what
19. If you could write an ideal fic, what would it include?
*tiktok audio voice* emotional damage
My ideal fic is multi-chaptered, keeps you up till 3AM saying "just one more chapter" because your heart is now even more firmly connected to these characters.
Like, I've got WIPs I want to finish, but I really just want to. actually put emotion into my work ^^;
hhh all of these are so cool but i would like to know 🔁🥰🛳️✨ the most 👁👁
🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times
This is mostly pwp 🙈 so you've got staranon's Worth It series, what comes between us by smilecapsules, and Fire and Lightning (Caught Between) by Fledgling just to name a few, but I will also dip into multi-chap fics just to reread the sex scenes as well
🥰 A fic that gives you warm fuzzy feelings
I know I answered this in a different ask but you can probably tell I can never pick just one fic lol
I don't wanna say too much about Resonance by Withercrown because it's on the shorter side, but I really, really loved this fic!
🛳️ A fic that brought you aboard a new ship
I definitely started shipping codywan because of the fans and seeing art and fics and such. I'm not sure the exact fic, but I think it was First Sight by glimmerglanger
✨ A fic you wish you could read again for the first time
somehow, this was the hardest question out of all of these
who carried the hill by spqr because it might be my favorite of her works but I also can't reread it because the first time I read it, that bittersweet ache in my chest lingered for a while.
also in bad lands, i’m a good man for you by prettydizzeed because there's a very specific part that literally took the wind out from my lungs.
