In all these years I’ve never been able to work out why exactly Stefan and Linda split up.  Watching Fotografen/The Photographer again I was trying to make sense of this scene, where Stefan just dumps the shopping outside and drives off.  I’ve finally come to the conclusion that Linda wanted more comitment, maybe she wanted to start a family, and he didn’t.  Based on an earlier scene where she asks him to get champagne and he asks if she’s going to propose, I can only assume that he got incredibly cold feet and couldn’t face going into the house and seeing Linda, so he ran off.  The coward.
