The Four Weapons

Before being captured by FoCUP, Kai lived in the small town of Ignacia with his parents Ray and Maya, and with his sister, Nya. The family ran a small blacksmith shop called Four Weapons --- Ray would do the smithing, and Maya would tend to customers. However, when Kai turned 5, Ray and Maya disappeared. Kai and Nya were taken in by one of their neighbors, an old man called Dr. Saunders, who Kai recognized as a friend of his parents.

Sold off to FoCUP

After about a year of staying with Dr. Saunders, a strange man came by the house one day, and Kai and Nya were sent off with him under the guise that Saunders had important work that they couldn't disturb and would be going with the man for a while. Kai was cautious at first, and he was right to be worried. The man was Cryptor, the up and coming heir to his father's company, FoCUP. Everything was good for about 2 years, until Kai and Nya were suddenly placed into metal holding cells and soon experimentally mutated with reptile DNA.

The Escape

During his time contained by FoCUP, Kai befriended Zane, a model mutation that took care of other FoCUP captives. Over the four-year span, the two grew close, with Kai even trusting Zane enough to tell them about his escape plan. The plan originally involved Nya escaping as well, but due to unfortunate circumstances, the two were separated and Kai escaped alone. Everything was originally going okay, but then winter hit Ninjago City and sent Kai's body temperature to a dangerous low because Kai didn't know how to manage his body with the mutation. He was found half-dead in an alleyway by Sensei Wu who took him in and cared for him until he was okay. Kai then willingly chose to stay with the old man, as he had nowhere else to go.

Cause & Effect

Because of Kai's mutation and stay at FoCUP, there are many impacts that he has succumbed to.

Captivity Effects:

Kai no longer trusts strangers who don't give him a real reason to be trusted.

He has scars across their back from the brutal testing and experimentation that was done to him.

Kai has territorial issues

He owns a lot of house plants as well as both fluffy and weighted blanket

Kai's body does not do well during the fall and winter months, especially when he's up in the mountain of the monastery However, the hot springs nearby definitely help regulate their body temperature.

Kai lost the ability to taste spice, as the mutation took away their ability to sense capsaicin (spice chemical)

Kai's tail can detach when he's panicked

They developed a liking for small and isolated spots

Kai is able to have small bursts of speed, moving up to 30 mp/h for a few seconds at a time
