What in the actual fuck was that?
Lauren sat in her car, staring at the sidewalk where Justin had just tried to kiss her after a knock-down dragout of an argument.
Why would he... I mean all he's ever been is cruel... I have no interest in...
Lauren's thoughts raced at a mile a minute. She was interrupted by a text message on her phone.
"Hi, it's Lindsay. I mean...you probably already know that. Um. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and let you know that I had another potential client for you. Okay thanks bye."
Lauren smiled. Lindsay was so adorable and awkward and she loved every minute of it.
"Thanks Lindsay, I appreciate it. Also, hi back at ya. ;)"
Almost instantly her screen lit up with a reply.
"We can meet up to talk details if you want? I mean, that is, if you're not busy. I hope you're not busy."
Honestly, she thought, a distraction is just what I need.
"That sounds great, Linds."
"Okay! :))) Want to swing by the store?"
"Absolutely. :)"
Lauren started the car and drove to Lindsay's store. The area was mostly desolate at this time of night. She pulled into a spot out front and walked to the store.
Lindsay popped up from the back and smiled a mile wide when she saw her. "Hey Lauren!" she greeted her enthusiasticly.
"Hi Linds," she said. "Have a good day?"
"Yea," she said. "It was pretty good. How about you?"
Lauren tried to hide the look on her face. "Well, it's better now," she said.
Lindsay frowned. "Is everything okay?"
Lauren sighed, sitting down across from her. "I don't know," she said. "Not really."
"Want to talk about it?" asked Lindsay gently.
"Have I told you about Justin?" she asked.
"Hm," said Lindsay. "I don't think so."
"Well," began Lauren. "He was my boss. Or, I guess, my boss's boss? And he fired me because I made a scene at work, which was kind of fair, I was being pretty irresponsible. Anyway, I ended up becoming his sister's wedding planner, and ever since he's made my life a living hell. All he does is talk about how bad of a job I'm doing and try to undermine everything I say and do. It's been really exhausting, and I couldn't figure out what the hell he had against me. And then we were there to the couple with their cake, and he just kept doing the same thing over and over. The couple kicked us both out because he just kept pushing it, and I was so mad. So we left, and we were fighting with each other and then he just stopped and looked at me, after insulting me for hours, and said 'kiss me.'"
Lindsay was wide-eyed. "So what happened then?" she asked.
"I told him hell no, and he stomped off like a toddler. I just...I'm still reeling. I don't know what to do about this or how to move forward."
"Wow," said Lindsay, taking her hand. "I'm sorry you had to go through that. You deserve to be built up, not torn down. You're an incredible wedding planner and his sister is lucky to have you. I don't understand men," she shook her head, "but I would never treat you like that."
Lauren smiled at her as Lindsay realized what she'd said.
"I mean--"
"Thank you," Lauren interrupted. "For being so kind to me, and for being here when I need you. For building me up instead of tearing me down. You're a really great friend, and business partner, and exactly what I'm looking for in a girlfriend."
Lindsay's cheeks turned bright red, but her smile shone brighter.
"I'm sorry," said Lindsay, "I didn't mean to presume..."
"Well, now you don't have to," said Lauren. "Because I've told you."
"So," said Lindsay, "you really want to be my girlfriend?"
Lauren smiled, taking Lindsay's hand in hers. "I'd like that very much."
Lindsay bit her lip, trying to contain her excitement.
Lauren took her face in her hands, slowly leaning towards her. They both closed their eyes, savoring the moment as their lips brushed against each other.
Lindsay leaned into the kiss, deepening it, their bodies moving into each other, both desperate to get closer to each other.
Finally, they broke apart, both gasping for air.
"Thank you," said Lindsay.
Lauren smirked. "So polite!" she said, chuckling.
Lindsay blushed. "I'm just really happy to call you my girlfriend," she looked away embarrassed.
Lauren took her chin, looking into her eyes. "Hey," she said, "me too."
Lindsay smiled again, taking Lauren's hand in hers. She cleared her throat. "So, that client," said Lindsay.
"Oh!" said Lauren surprised. "You mean you actually have a client for me? I thought you just made that up to see me."
Lindsay looked offended. "Of course not!" she said. "I mean, it was a very fortunate side-effect, but I do have someone for you."
The two wandered to her back office to discuss business, both of them extremely happy.
Like hell I was gonna choose someone other than you Sweetheart β€πππ....
