Yesterday I was thinking of death a lot and how one can’t really explain the agony of losing someone dear to you. That is a pain unique to grief for it does not feel like anything else, not everything can be put into words.
A few hours later I received a call from my dearest friend with the news of the death of her father. I was so shocked I went deaf, I kept saying who!? who!? who!? I couldn’t believe it, those were not words I ever imagined I would hear from my friend. I have never met someone who cares deeply for her father as she does and vice versa. As I started to calm down the realization dawned on me that I in fact did not know what to say to her, whatever grief I’ve known is only a fraction of what she feels now.
I cannot tell her that everything is going to be okay, I cannot take away her pain, I feel helpless. There is quite literally nothing I can do to make it go away, what do I tell her that she has never heard before? Allah ya jikan baba. And for my princess I will try my best.
