He could always hear the village below him bustling with life as he sat up on the large concreate wall. The sound of voices and carts being pulled and the smell of bread and different foods were all so interesting. Still up on the wall was as close as he had ever come to the village he was to rule one day. Aukai was a prince, an elven prince…well sort of. He was half water-elf on his mother’s side. His village and castle was near the ocean as they used it as protection due to the water manipulation he and other water-elves carried.
He had never been to the ocean though, or to the village, or even outside the castle he lived in. He was blind, something that occurred during an attempted attack when he was a child. Because of that his mother was always too scared to let him outside. Even though he could see in a sense, a sort of echolocation that allowed him to see the form and distant of something. He had tried to convince his mother to allow him outside but to no success.
It wasn’t as if he hated his castle. It was large and open and there was much to do but he always thought there was more outside for him. “Aukai? Aukai where are you?” his mother called out in the distance causing him to tense. If she saw him like this she would freak. Quickly he jumped down off the wall and landed on his feet, though it did hurt some. He quickly fixed his appearance, tidying up the long blue robe he wore and fixing his jewelry and other things.
“Yes mother? Is something wrong?” He could hear her footsteps grow louder and saw her form move closer. A sigh of relief. “No, no. I was just going to tell you I must leave for the day. I will return later in the evening. Will you be aright? You’ll have the maids and butlers if you need any help.” He gave a smile and nodded. “I’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
“It’s my job to worry Aukai. I’m your mother.” She ran a hand through his hair before giving a small kiss on his forehead.
He wouldn’t say he liked it when his mother left, but it did give him more freedom to move around the walls. His favorite wall was the one facing away from the village. The one that hid the ocean. He would climb it and just stare at the nothingness. He could hear the distant waves, crashing against things. Smell the salt and feel the breeze. It was the one thing he wanted to go to more than anything else. He could hear the ocean, its language that was the waves calling out. “I hear you. Why are you always so far away? Can’t you come closer?”
