Here's something I noticed while re-reading Sunrise on the Reaping that I'd like to share:3
(Major SOTR spoilers ahead)
So about the ladybug song that Maysilee sings to Haymitch:
"Ladybug, ladybug fly away home.
Your house is on fire, your children are gone.
All except one, who answers to Nan.
She's hiding under the frying pan" (291).
Seeing this again made me realize that this song sorta represents Haymitch and finding Wellie (this is just my personal analysis. I don't usually do this so lemme know if I'm reaching in this lol). The first line "Fly away home" could be a message from Snow telling Haymitch to go back to 12 to see the "surprises" he had for him after the games. Snow was upset with Haymitch and wanted him to suffer as much as possible by taking everything away from him.
The line "your house is on fire, your children are gone" represents how after the games, his family died in a house fire and he lost everyone he ever loved. The line "your children are gone" could also represent how by this point in the games, most of the Newcomers have already died. They're all gone.
These last few lines are where Wellie comes into play. "All except one, who answers to Nan." Wellie was the final Newcomer left in the games other than Haymitch himself. He was only able to find her after calling out her name in the arena, which she answered to by ringing her bicycle bell.
"That's a bicycle bell, without a doubt. The one Maysilee wove into Wellie's necklace back in the gym. She's heard my calls and this is her answer" (311).
"She's hiding under a frying pan." When Haymitch found Wellie, she was hiding in a tree and was likely hiding there for the majority of the games.
This song isn't completely original to SOTR, as Suzane Collins mentions in the acknowledgements that it's "a district 12 variation of a centuries-old nursery rhyme." I tried to find the original version, and the best I could find was
"Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home!
Your house is on fire, your children all gone,
All but one, and her name is Ann,
And she crept under the pudding pan."
Googling the origin of this song, I found this (from a website called "Journal News." There's quite a bit of ads-as there are with most article websites-which caused my computer to lag. just a bit of a warning if you're device runs slowly or is old like mine):
"The origin of the rhyme is generally traced to 16th century Britain, where hops were an important crop. Lady beetles visited hops vines and laid their eggs there because aphids were abundant. Both adults and larvae ate aphids. In fall, farmers burned the hops fields off. Of course, the adult beetles could fly away, but any larvae still there were doomed."
I'm not certain on how trustworthy this source is (also, I couldn't do much because the ads were lagging my computer). But one part that I do find interesting is how the adult beetles could fly away when the crops were burned, but the larvae were doomed. In The Hunger Games, when you're an adult, you're safe from the reaping and the games. However, children ages 12-18 (18 is still considered reaping age), you aren't free and are doomed to the reaping lottery.
Lemme know your thoughts! I just found this interesting and wanted to share it out there in case anyone else noticed this (and would possibly like to discuss this book) :)

My favorite way of trying to get my friend into LU is by sending them the most random obscure lu related meme and going "If you were in the fandom, you'd understand😔😔😔"
That, and also constantly texting them about it lol
So I had this crazy dream last night that literally felt like a whole movie. Like, there was narration, a whole storyline, heck, I think at one point in my dream I was watching everything like it was a movie.
I'll try my best to sorta explain everything:
So the dream started out through the pov of this young girl when she was a child talking about how her first memory was when she was a baby and saw the stars. And it was BEAUTIFUL like, there were swirling galaxies, the constellations became alive and started dancing around her, and there was this soft singing voice from a woman who is presumably her mother.
Then it cuts to the present as a teenager and discusses her life. She talks about how she's always been interested in the stars and wants to find that exact same place she remembers as a child since she's never found it before. Oh also for context, she lives on an island and is too young to venture out into the ocean(it kinda gave Moana vibes I think?). She also lives with her dad and we are to believe that her mom is dead.
I don't remember much of what happens to the main character in the story. I think her dad was really overprotective of her and wanted to keep her away from the ocean, but then it escalated into a big fight and her dad finally told her the truth about what happened to her mom (dun dun dunnn).
And I remember this backstory very vividly. So what happened was her mother was also a selkie and from what I remembered about selkies was that if you got married to one, you had to hide their cloaks because they yearn to go back into the ocean and will leave you. So basically, her dad hid her mom's cloak on another island way far out, but she was so desperate to find it that she secretly set out on an adventure WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT with our main character girl.
But then the mom NEARLY DIED but was saved by another selkie girl who found her and helped her give birth to our main character girl.
AND THE REASON WHY HER FIRST MEMORY WAS OF THE STARS WAS BECAUSE SHE WAS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN WITH ONLY THE STARS TI GUIDE THEM AIFUHSVDJSNFBS LIKE THIS WAS SUCH A BIG PLOT TWIST.
AND THE SINGING SHE HEARD WAS HER MOTHER SINGING BECAUSE SHE IS A SELKIE AND SELKIES SING SONGSSSSSS.
But the mother felt bad about leaving and taking her child away from her husband, so she returned our main character girl to her husband and left with the other selkie girl who helped her give birth. I also remember calling them "lesbian selkies" in my dream. Just thought I should include that here.
And then the dream ended and I woke up.
But this has so much potentialllllllll like, what if she leaves and finds her mom? Or what if she decided not to become a selkie but still explore the ocean? Or what if her dad goes with her? The drama???
Like Disney hire me, I could do something with this.
So yeah, that's mah movie dream. I'm just shocked at how well everything flowed because usually the dreams that have stories like this are still jumbled up and confusing. But this was a whole MOVIE.
Uh, feel free to use any of this in ur own stories if u want lol. If I have the time and brain space I might create my own lore to this hehe
Hope y'all enjoyed my yapping. Have a great day/afternoon/night! 😊
There is a user (a bot most likely) by the name of "Rokon24" who has been reposting multiple people's artworks and general posts. I'm trying to reach out to as many artists as I can and let them know that their art has been stolen. It's especially annoying since this acc reposts constantly so there are so many artists who have had their art stolen. Thankfully, the reposts haven't gained much attention so the og art is still getting more credit.
If you go to this acc to report it, PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THE LINKS THEY ADDED THEY ARE MOST LIKELY SCAMS. If you recognize any of the artworks, please let the original artists know.
Adding your username in your tags also helps if you don't have a watermark on your art. You can easily add a tag to multiple posts using the "Mass Post Editor."
