Clarification, becuase I LOVE your swap deam and nightmare: it meantions that Dream was turned to stone while regaining his strength, letting the curroption free reign. Is he still stone? Like is the curroption puppetering he partially statuized body kinda thing? Cause that would be horrifying since the curroption would actively attacks anything that would let Dream regain his strength, essentially repressing his ability to recover by tipping the balance. What a clusterfuck
he’s still in the process of returning to normal, think of it like a machine running low on power and automatically turning into fuel saving mode until it’s refilled- except there’s a second cable sapping away the energy needed
it’s still getting through to the main power source, but at a much slower rate
so, he’s mostly returned to normal, except for his extremities like- lower limbs and forearm, which still makes moving around really difficult (and painful)
so yea,,, the corruption is actively messing with his recovery :(( on top of having to battle it for control when he’s fully awake he also has to deal with his rigid body fighting against itself, he’s not having a good time </3
fun fact! for inspiration i looked towards marika from elden ring, ted from ihnmaims (great soft jelly thing mode), and that feeling you have in your limbs when you keep seated too long into one position and it disconnects from your body

GHRAAAAAAAA I LOVE YOUR SHIFT AUUUU, Share more details on Nightmare?? He was awake entirely when Dream wasn't how is he handling the Corrupted Dream? Does he think Dream is dead or awake? How young were they? Poor Dream couldn't age properly besides him :(
yep!! he's been awak the entire time! and he's not doing good!
so basically, in the dreamtale canon they were like,,, 6??? which is kinda baffling to me like 😭 they were bullying a toddler nightmare fr got the naruto treatment, which is SO unbelievably funny to me
so i've tweaked a Lot abt the og lore- including a whole new timeline, so the apple incident happened wayyy later- they were around 113 in fact! to us very old, but to them very very young still
after dream turned to stone, nm legitimately thought he'd died, and he lived with that guilt for decades- until one day, on one of his visits to his brother's grave, the statue wasn't there.
Vines and foliage upturned, an imprint left on the soil where the body of his brother once stood in eternal stillness. If not for his eye frantically scouring the thicket in panic, he'd have missed the path carved through the golden flowers, trailing off into the forest.
Nightmare spared no second, his legs already leading him into a sprint.
His soul thrummed and ached- it hoped- for the first time in more than four decades- his soul dared to hope.
He abruptly skidded across the dirt, his breath labored, his knees giving out. A few paces ahead stood a familiar figure, their golden cape fluttering in the gentle wind, shimmering under the sun.
Their stature was so similar to his own- but smaller, younger. The features softer.
A warm smile on his face, a golden circlet around his head-
Tar running down his left cheek. Down his vertebrae. Wrapped around his left arm completely. The breeze stilled- the world silent save for the constant dripping of black liquid onto the earth.
Nightmare choked. His scar burned.

Basically- around 40 ish years later, 'dream' wakes up- at that moment it was all corruption, no dream. the real dream only gains full consciousness for the first time like, 200 years after that :^) even then its for a very short period of time, and he was exhausted afterwards
nm also freaked out at that, my trauma king <33 i love putting that man in situations
Oh my god your scene gave me goosebumps, the idea that Dream will perpetually be younger than Nightmare, ha Nightmare found him corrupted, that he probably thinks his brother is gone and- Ughh its just such a scene, I could almost see it it'd paint such a scene, the heartbroken stare down with what seems like the most peaceful angel

yeagh :((( even if dream has a certain level of awareness while the corruption is at the front, it'll never amount to the real experience of living. no matter whether they're able to fight the corruption off for good, and both him and nm will forever mourn all the moments they didn't get to spend together, all the shared experiences, memories, feelings, there'll always be this empty space where the other once was. theyre kinda like noelle and dess in that aspect!
also, if you take into account how much longer their lifespans are, even longer than monsters naturally, they're truly the only everlasting companion the other has- so nm essentially spent centuries alone, thinking dream was gone for good, his body puppettered by a creature he unleashed, while every person he could've get to know passes away from age
he's not doing good!!! put that man in therapy!!!!!!
